Bozak

Created by: Rooney
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2020
Published: Jul. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would Bozak be a good stop gap if Little is done? St. Louis needs cap space to re-sign Pietrangelo, we have made a bigger trade with them in the past despite being in the same division (Stastny), and Bozak is a Saskatchewan boy so Winnipeg might not be on his 10 team no trade list.

Not saying this is the best option out there but just throwing out a new idea that I haven't seen before. Nice thing is there is only 1 year left on his contract which means his cap hit will be gone when Laine is due. Rather than acquiring a player at the deadline...we have him the entire year as well.

Again, I realize this probably isn't the BEST option out there but let me know your thoughts regardless.

Bozak would be a better 2C fit than guys like Haula, Stepan, Tierney etc and would expire in 1 year.

And then who's the 2C after Bozak expires? Think I'd rather take a shot at Tierney and at worst have some depth at center for a while.

I think long term Tierney would be the way to go, but what would he cost? plus Im always weary of guys who look good on bad teams.
I like the idea of Bozak for one year and maybe they can sign him to an extension if he develops chemistry

Cost as in salary? Idk to be honest, $4M?

He's had some good seasons in SJ as well and most of his points are at even strength which is a good sign imo, I think he'd be fine, he's not high end but he'd be good enough. I just really think this team needs some better depth down the middle period, Copp is fine but he was very underwhelming at 2C, Lowry sucks, Shore is a 4C, Roslovic looked good but will likely never be given a chance, Eakin is a 3rd line player and Gustafsson looks like a 3C at best.

This team really missed Little this season, it didn't get talked about enough by the local Jets media imo, add Little and his production and I bet the Jets are easily in control of 3rd place in the Central instead of fighting for a wildcard spot.

Guess I'm just tired of assets thrown away on short term help and think Tierney is a better option then what the Jets have even if he's not high end, I think the Jets need more 2/3C's and less 3/4C's if you catch my drift.

Bozak will be 35 when he hits free agency, should we really be looking to extend a guy at that age even if he does well?.. Lol

Personally, I would not. I think there is still lots of potential, hoping he can break out a bit next season.

I agree . Little is undervalued and people just look at his contract and think he's overpayed for too long, but Ive watched pretty much every game since the jets returned and Little provides so much to the team in so many ways. OVerall I want to jets to spend to get a 2C. GIve up some prospects to lock down someone who can skate with Laine and Ehlers. Im not a big fan of bringing in vets with 1 year left on their deals, but its better than Eakin. I think Copp did ok at 2C, but I think he needs like 30 games to really show what he's got or doesn't. Roslovic should be allotted the same time as Copp

Yeah I tens to agree, as much as I think big Logan has bust with a capital B written all over him unfortunately I still wouldn't want to see him traded for a rental, far too much has been invested in him in both draft capital to trade up to select him and in development time to throw him away on a rental, maybe he'll be a late bloomer or at the very least could be developed into a cheap 3rd pair dman who can PK which is at least something.

If Bozak was acquired I'd much rather send a mid to late round pick for him, throw in a guy like
Skyler Mckenzie if necessary.

My thoughts exactly as well! Hoping Stanley can develop into at least a capable, cheap 3rd pairing guy like you said.

What are your thoughts on the jets going after Strome or Domi? As in what would you give up for them if you're able to get them locked down long term

Hmmm, hard to say. If Little truly is done, then the Jets have to go after a 2C in my opinion more than ever. Both would be good targets although my preference would be with Domi. I actually think Strome had a better year, but this is his first really good year and it was alongside Panarin. With Laine and Ehlers though on his wings maybe that isn't much of an argument. I also have a tough time pinpointing a value for Strome since this has been a breakout year. As for Domi, I think this one might be more realistic especially given they have more depth down the middle. I feel like MTL would want a top-4 D in return which is where WPG falls short. My proposal is below but I'm not sure how MTL fans would feel (I don't follow them super closely so this could be off).

Trade proposal for Domi:

WPG: Domi

MTL: 2020 1st round pick, Sami Niku, Kristian Vesalainen

That's close to what I would give up for Domi. I don't like the idea of giving up a 1st in 2020 as it's suppose to be super deep, but 2021? basing that on Domi making the jets better in the standings. If the asked for more I wouldn't be afraid to throw in one of Appleton, Harkins or Stanley even though I really like Appleton and Harkins

2021 would be my preference 100% but I feel like Montreal would have to have it in 2020 for that exact reason, it's such a deep draft! I would be okay with that too although it would suck losing Appleton or Harkins...I could live with Stanley.
