NYI
  1. Parise, Zach ($3,769,230 retained)
Additional Details:
Parise "net" cap hit to NYI for 3 years is $5.5M (same if Ladd was here)

With hope, Parise will be on LTIR in years 4 and 5 of this deal. If not, he will count for $3,769,231 against the Isles cap.
MIN
  1. Bellows, Kieffer
  2. Golyshev, Anatoly [Reserve List]
  3. Ladd, Andrew ($1,730,770 retained)
  4. 2022 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Ladd's "net" cap hit to MIN for 3 years is $7.53M (same if Parise stayed)

Parise will still count for $3,769,230 against the Wild's cap (same as NYI) in years 4 and 5 of his contract.

The "true" trade here is: NYI gives Bellows, the rights to another Russian winger prospect and a 2nd round pick for 2-3 seasons of a usable player. MIN saves 50% in years 4-5 of the Parise deal if he was still healthy and on their roster.

Not quite. Wild aren't retaining almost 4M for another 6 years or so. Parise is a fan favorite and he's all heart. I doubt they ever move him.

Will taking a cheaper, shorter term deal like the one given to Barzal here actually help a player get more money on their next if the cap may be flat for a few years?

Wild pass. They'll use Parise up and let him LTIR(etire). No recapture to worry about and no dead cap in retained money.

Nobody will be lining up to help the Isles with their cap problems, especially not in times like this.

No Ladds negative value is almost Dobson alone.

Plus we have to consider the fact that teams in need of cap will have to pay even more this year than the last couple years to get rid if bad contracts.

While I'm fundamentally against trading for another 30+ year old overpaid winger, I guess the logic for the trade itself isn't bad. My concern is with the Barzal contract. I don't see an offer sheet coming, but I think on a 2-3 year deal, Barzal will be asking for closer to $7 million

Ottawa declines. They've pretty much gone on record saying they are bringing BoroCop back which means we have FOUR LHD on one way contracts already. We certainly don't need FIVE of them when Chabot is playing 27 minutes a game.

So then Parises’ negative value is worth almost McDavid alone

That is bad reasoning... I based my thoughts on multiple cap dump trades that have been made in the past. 1 year of Marleau for a first, Bickell for Teravainen, Mason for Armia and a second... With 3 years left to his 5,5m contract, theres no way youre dumping him without giving twice the value CAR got for taking Marleau (especially in these times)... Dobson is fair value especially when tou considet the fact that in my trade proposal, we are taking Leddy as well. Thats over 10 millions in cap for a single prospect

I think if Parise wants to be moved the Wild might accommodate that, but if he wants to stay then I think he stays. Really think it comes down to how competitive the Wild are in the next year or so. I'm sure Guerin will make sure moving Parise doesn't hurt the Wild cap situation.

Would you agree a move like this is feasible? We can argue value, but from a dollar perspective neither team is impacted for 3 years. Years 4-5 are the question marks, which is the reason for the Isles paying more

I think so. I don't completely understand the recapture rules, mostly because of the NHLs lack of consistency in enforcing them and they just adjusted them, but I would say it seems feasible.

The problem here isn't the money for us IMO. It's the fact that Zach is still a productive player in the NHL. We might save a little money in the last 2 years of the contract but we still are losing a player who scored 25 goals in 69 games this season. We'd basically be voluntarily taking on a cap recapture penalty dead cap hit for the next 3 seasons (unless Bellows pans out). I get wanting to help Zach out if he thinks he needs to go somewhere else to chase the cup before he retires, but we shouldn't screw ourselves over in the process. It has to make sense for both sides.

They pretty much just eliminated the chance of a crazy $24 million one year cap hit for Nashville. The penalty is capped at the player's cap hit. You still have to pay back the full cap advantage, but you can space it out over multiple seasons i the penalty exceeds the cap hit. For example, if Weber retires with 1 year left on his deal, instead of 1 year wtih $24 million in dead cap space they would have 3 years at $7.86 million and 1 year at a partial cap hit. You're still penalized the same amount for the player retiring early, but you're not entirely crippled by the penalty.

So they basically made the penalty make sense once they saw what some of the numbers would be?
