Bring Pulock Home

Created by: Whiteout204
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2020
Published: Jul. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NYI is in a tough situation with Barzal needing to be resigned for big dollars. This creates an opportunity to bring Pulock back to Manitoba through an OS.

Or a gentleman's agreement through trading could happen:

WPG:
Pulock

NYI:
2021 1st
Niku (top 4 prospect, former AHL defenseman of the year)
Vesalainen (top 6 prospect winger, could look good next to barzal)

The trade is expensive for the jets, much more so than an OS would be. It would give them the opportunity to sign Pulock long-term though.

For 2C, I would like to see Roslovic or Harkins get a chance to grow in the role. I don't think the jets will be able to get a good solution from anywhere but within the org.

I agree that Pulock is an absolute stud, and his cost to acquire would be high. NYI have approx 10mil in cap space, and have Pulock, Barzal and Toews as priorities to resign. Barzal alone should eat up between 8.5 to 9.5. NYI would need to move a lot of pieces and draft picks to regain enough cap to allow them to match an offer @ 7.2m.

By my guesstimation, NYI would need about 19m for those 3 players. Seems like an opportunity for an OS even if it gets matched.

I do agree that they are in cap hell with key players needing contracts, but I think there are trades to be made to create the space.
Boychuk might be tough to move, but not impossible, but uncle Leo, Leddy and Clutterbuck all have value. I think the Islanders are stuck with Ladd though. Unless they wanna add a nice kicker, which is tough cause they don't have their 1st and 2nd this year or their 2nd next year.

We know the cap situation, but Pulock won't be sacrificed.

Many isles fans have creatively maneuvered the cap in posts without giving up one of the big 3 RFAs. We have a tough offseason coming up sure, but I think it can definitely be done without having to give up Barzal, Pulock or Toews

Everything you're saying is true, but the player has to actually agree to sign the offer sheet. There's no way he signs for less than Trouba.

I dont think Pulock would have an issue signing for Winnipeg, but the dollar figure is a different ball game. I think Trouba's value got massively over-inflated playing pp1 time on a team with no problem putting the puck in the net. NYR is stuck with that whale of a contract. In a flat cap world, I don't see NYI paying Pulock much more than 7m at max. I see a 6.5m extension in their future.

Thank you to everyone for the constructive discussion!
