Two cap clearing trades - year 2 - bridge the kids

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2020
Published: Jul. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It might cost more in the long-run to bridge both Petey and Hughes, but the advantage is that the team still has RFA control and can try to lock them up for 8 years at the end of the deals. I think both guys will be worth holding onto for as long a possible, even if it means higher AAV's later on.

if you are going to pay Qh and EP that much you're better off locking them up long term
that is way too much for bridge deals.

That was my thought originally too; this scenario would mean they’ve both had epic 2020/21 seasons so the cap hit is at the high end.

And as I mentioned in the description, the premise for bridging them both would be to extend team control for as long as possible, even if it means paying them more AAV on their next deals. I like the idea of VAN having them both locked up for as long as possible, but either a bridge or 8 year deal would be fine really. I just don’t want the Matthews-type deal that walks them to UFA status asap.
