Consensus value on both players seems to be a late 1st or early 2nd +

I think Buffalo is going decline, they really don’t have any more room for expensive players that don’t produce.

I wouldn't trade an established top-6 2way winger for a one year wonder goalie, especially since he put up his numbers on a team that allowed the 6th fewest shots/game. With him going to the team with the worst shots/game differential, I would want more than just him straight up, especially if Chicago is retaining half on Saad. If there was no salary retention by Chicago, then I could consider understanding it from Chicago's perspective, but otherwise, this heavily favors the Pens.

Jarry is only getting a bridge deal so retention makes it cap neutral for both sides

My value is based off of a number of goalie trades, yours is based off of what exactly...? Can you cite a single trade as an example of why Jarry's value is lower than that

Hallander is a very nice prospect, Lafferty is a solid 3RW, they can easily afford JJ as a their #4

Fairly cap neutral deal so not sure that would be a reason to decline, if anything it's lower risk as Miller has more term

This seems like pretty big overpay for one year of Saad. Even at half retention. Why give up an All-Star goalie for a winger who's best season was only 53 points and that was four seasons ago.

Miller played with Dahlin and that worked out well. Plus Bjugstad, Isn’t good.

I can think of better options for CHI than to give up a top line winger...WITH $3,000,000 RETAINED! How about signing Crow and lose zero assets.

Was under the impression they liked Jokijarju in that spot longer term. Bjugstad is fine, he just has trouble staying healthy so the pick is included

I'd be shocked if JR gave up those 2 pieces though to move J J.

Crawford is 35, and Saad can only be moved to ten teams during the season or Chicago risks losing him for nothing - which would actually be poor asset management. Do you think Chicago is a contender with Crawford and Saad? Genuinely?

If they decide on Murray over Jarry they'll be forced to move cap, this assumes Murray has a playoffs that warrants that decision

hawks decline. Drop the retention on Saad and add a 3rd or 4th going to Chicago and we are good

I think they are looking to move Ristolainen and Montour. And have Miller Jokiharju and Borgen come up from Rochester.

Regardless of whether or not Jarry is getting a bridge deal, trading a top-6 2-way winger for a one year wonder on a better defensive team makes no sense for Chicago, especially if it's a 1-for-1 with Chicago retaining salary. There is no reason for Chicago to take this deal.

I don't believe Jarry's 33 games last year makes him "proven". I do believe having Saad/Crow makes the Hawks, as a team, better than having Jarry. Contender...probably not, but certainly not with Jarry either. I think it's bad asset management if you're trading away your top RW half retained and a 1st doesn't come back. It's the worst time to trade a goalie. There are plenty of UFA goalies out there where the Hawks (or any team) don't need to lose any assets.

***EDIT*** In all sincerity...any of the following goalies (with Saad) would be better than losing Saad, but still keeping $3M on the books. Greiss, Lehner, Crow, Holtby, Talbot, Markstrom. AT LEAST one of these guys will be available.

The trade is intentionally cap neutral, Jarry is getting a bridge deal around 2-3M for 2 years so retaining for a year doesn't negatively impact Chicago but makes it workable for Pittsburgh. If you're talking about adding a 3rd or 4th I think we're close enough on value to not waste time negotiating the finer points

Saying Jarry is a 'one year wonder' is to ignore his draft pedigree and progression as a prospect. The reason Chicago takes the deal is that Jarry helps them more than a late 1st they would otherwise get as they have absolutely no plan for a future goaltender
