2020-21 with Pius and Shaw

Created by: blackhawksfan22
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 16, 2020
Published: Jul. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forward group is stacked. Defense looks a little better. Hopefully one of Mitchell and Seabrook look good next year (surgeries may have helped). Carlsson looked good in limited opportunities this year. Saad could be traded but I'd prefer to hang onto him. Deep forward group, again. Not sure if Delia or Lankinen is better as a backup, so I went with Delia due to experience. Suter may jump up lineup a little, but I'm not sure where to. Still not a huge Colliton guy, but I don't hate him either.

how about moving DeBrincat to the right, Suter to his spot and Shaw to Suters spot?

Hawks fans should be warned - don't be too excited about a Euro player coming over until he does and plays well. Like for example I'm thrilled that the Leafs grabbed Lehtonen and Barabanov but while there's a chance he projects over really well, there's a decent chance that it doesn't work out.

Pius could be like the next big Euro name to come over and be successful, or it could just mean literally nothing. I don't mind the Hawks so I hope it works out, but just don't get your hopes up too high.

I think he'll project to like a Mikheyev calibre player personally, but we'll see.

Right, but Kahun, and Kubalik have worked out well. That’s just in the last couple years.

Hopefully we can find a trading partner for Smith. Otherwise burying him in AHL might be better because it’s 1 season instead of 2 for the buyout. Plus he can help the young kids down there. Also I’m betting/hoping Shaw is on LTIR. Opens up $4M in cap and gives them some breathing room.

And as you can see the RD is full. No way Seabrook sits leaving Mitchell as odd man out. Either Murphy is traded or Mitchell starts in AHL to get some seasoning.

If he’s another Mikheyev, we’ve got one hell of a player.

I think the reasons most of us are so optimistic is because the Hawks have proven time and again that they know what they’re doing with Europeans. One of the things Bowman consistently gets right. Panarin, Gustafsson, Kempny, Kahun, Kubalik and hopefully Lankinen are or will be NHL regulars and the guys who have faltered - Wedin, Nilsson - Suter’s resume is much better than theirs was.

Obviously we have to be cautious - I think most of us have been. Suter could end up not working out or even Kubalik could end up being some crazy one year wonder. But I think we can reasonably tie a little more optimism to Suter than normal just based on the Hawks’ track record with these guys. They didn’t sign him on a whim

I'd take Mikheyev! I think he's one of the more underrated wingers on the Leafs.

100% agree. I think Hawks fans are a bid jaded after the last two guys we found (Kubalik and Kahun) were really good and Kubalik an absolute stud. Suter is projected as a bottom 6 player and likely starting on the 4th line

Yeah but burying Smith only saves us $1M and costs $2.3M of dead cap versus spreading that out and costing us $2.3M over 2 years. Better just to buy him out.

Agree on Seabs not sitting. Murphy I'm betting gets moved into the season.

I think De Haan would be a better candidate to move, we have seen Murphy play on his offhand before. I really like him, hope he doesnt get moved, and while I acknowledge there is a chance he is moved, I think there are plenty of reasonable ways to make things fit without moving him. He wasnt bad on his offhand.

I agree but at the same time, we would be selling really low on De Haan given his injury history and part of moving a player is getting a good return and Murphy we could get a pretty darn good return for.

I hope Stan doesn't move Murphy. He's very undervalued in my opinion. I'd actually prefer to protect him even next year too. Leave either DeHaan or Maatta (if he's still on the team) exposed. We can't go too young too fast. Carlsson Murphy could be an outstanding Dpair.

Thats fair. Thats kind of the same how I feel about Saad tbh. If it were up to me I would lose Saad over Murphy but its not so I guess we will find out

Really hoping the Hawks extend saad for $4.5M for 4 or 5 years.

I agree he's undervalued for sure and I like Murphy but I don't like moving Murphy to his off side...he's noticeable better on the right. Hawks aren't going to sit Seabs in the pressbox, not for more then 20 games or so, and if Mitchell is a shoe in to play, we can't block his development or BoQ's. Murphy just makes a lot of sense to move if Seabs is playing. Keep in mind, as long as Seabs is fit to play, his buyout makes zero sense for the next 2 out of 4 years if at all.

Agreed Seabs buyout make zero sense at any point in time. Mitchell will likely start in the AHL even though he's an NHL talent. If someone gets hurt he'll be the 1st brought up. Seabs recent injury history means to me that he'll likely be LTIR or at least we can't really risk the only other Right side veteran being 35 and coming off triple surgery.
