Over last 2 seasons Domi has a better point per game average while playing with inferior line mates, has a better plus minus, more physical player, is much more willing to work the corners, played a lot more centre, and had the lower cap hit. Nylander is a very good player, but to say he is far superior to Domi lacks support when accounting for actual on ice performance. Once you take into account the cap hit, Domi was the the much better deal over the last 2 years (not necessarily the better player, but the better value). And Domi is 1 year older than Nylander, so at this stage age is not a factor. In a cap world, it is not about who is the better player, but who is the better value. If Domi signs for 6.5 per year (which I highly doubt he gets that much) than Nylander likely becomes the better value, even so there is not a huge difference there.
