No thanks to the Habs trade.

Nylander and Dermott are worth more than a 50 point player and a rental (with the Cap space they are having, he is a rental)

And then paying domi only 400'000 less than Willie. Much worse player at almost the same cap. No thanks

With that Stars trade, you are essentially trading a 3rd (Johnsson), a 5th (Malgin), a 3rd, and a 4th for Honka, a 2nd and a 3rd. How does that make sense?

Domi gets that money due to that 7 year term. If necessary, it can be dropped for a mil or something like that.

Also despite Petry being a rental, he's actually pretty freaking good. You ain't losing much there.

It's Mango+4th for a 2nd and Malgin for Honka. Those 3rd rounders cut each other.

I think you don't realize how good Nylander is. good contract, works well with Matthews, was on a 37 goal pace. scored over 30. socred less than 20 goals in a full season only once. Willie is such a superior player to Domi. He can also play centre

So can Domi. I do agree that Nylander is a superior player to Domi, but apparently not as much as you seem to think.

I myself do believe the difference between Petry and Dermott compensates that. MTL can add a pick if necessary.

Domi is a center who can play LW and did 72 points playing with Drouin Lehkonen and Shaw. Nylander played with superior players and didn’t reach 72 points yet. Yes Nylander is better, not by far, Domi is very skilled. Fair trade, but realistically Bergevin didn’t trade Petry last TDL because he wants to extend him and keep him in MTL, so we have to say no

The difference is signifficant. long term you are getting weaker with him than with willie.

And Dubas would be stupid to throw away assets agian for rentals. it did not work well this year.

stop that. that was one season. he other seasons in the league he scored 52, 38,44 and 44. So he scored over 50 only twice and is older than Willie. And also with Covid going on for no one really knows for how long. Domi's condition is another risk, this is why he is not with the team right now

MTL decline the trade anyway. Nylander isn’t a big upgrade on Domi and losing Petry creates a giant hole on the Right side.

It doens not make sense for either team. I think Montreal could get more of what they need by trading them seperatly

MTL says no to that trade. While Nylander is better than Domi, Domi will probably cost less and losing Petry would be a huge blow on the right side since he’s probably our best dman behind Weber.

Over last 2 seasons Domi has a better point per game average while playing with inferior line mates, has a better plus minus, more physical player, is much more willing to work the corners, played a lot more centre, and had the lower cap hit. Nylander is a very good player, but to say he is far superior to Domi lacks support when accounting for actual on ice performance. Once you take into account the cap hit, Domi was the the much better deal over the last 2 years (not necessarily the better player, but the better value). And Domi is 1 year older than Nylander, so at this stage age is not a factor. In a cap world, it is not about who is the better player, but who is the better value. If Domi signs for 6.5 per year (which I highly doubt he gets that much) than Nylander likely becomes the better value, even so there is not a huge difference there.

Johnsson doesn’t get you a second. Packaging him with a bunch of blah doesn’t change that
