Description
I mean, I know it doesn't do much for the defensive issues, but I really doubt there will be much movement to that end in the off season.

These trades give the Leafs solid center depth, granted I'm assuming Robertson makes it out of camp, and some high 2nds in a deep draft. I think Anisimov is a really good 3rd line center that is capable offensively, on an expiring contract and something Ottawa would be willing to give up. Ottawa gets a boost to their top 6 with a couple of younger players on long term cheap deals (especially for players that would be on their 2nd/3rd lines).

Detroit gets a great young RWer on a very good contract, without mortgaging much of their future. Leafs get a good 4th line C that kills penalties and a high 2nd.

Flame away!

Gauthier will be half the money and does a fine job at 4c... for the whole 5-8 minutes... Spezza can play C too... and brooks... and engvall and nylander... Plus the stable of centre prospects.

Not to mention that this trade is undervalued for Kapanen in my opinion.

I agree Kapanen is worth more but as it is above I think Detroit declines.

Anisimov is 4C in Ottawa. NO WAY he plays 3C in Toronto.

Glendening is a healthy Scratch in Detroit. NO WAY he makes it past the marlies.

So no. No thank you.

Appreciate that you made a 23 man roster with cap space. But the Leafs are worse on the wings and at centre

He's not a healthy scratch in Detroit. He's easily better 4C than Gauthier, Engvall

On what planet has Glendening ever been a healthy scratch in Detroit? He's been pretty much our #4 C here lately he's very good on the PK and has a decent face off percentage. Not making the Marlies is pretty laughable.

You are blindly downgrading the value these 2 moves bring to the leafs. Yes, the Leafs loose 2 solid, young wingers and a decent 3C. However, Anisomov has always been a solid skating defensive C, as has Glendenning, something that is sorely lacking on the Leafs. Both are expiring contracts, which is why I included the higher of the 2nds in each move.

I will agree, this AGM assumes both Robertson and Barabanov are ready to step into a top 9 role out the gate, which may be stretching it. All in all, this move gives the Leafs some cap relief, very solid depth at C and some very good draft options in a deep draft, but definitely hurts their winger depth.
