only issue is he slowly went from 2 way to just playing more of an offensive game. I saw a card from Jfresh showing the trend but cant find it.

Washington isn't giving up their best defenseman for a second line winger and some spare parts.

Lmfao young Dman b prospect and a 1st = Spare parts on top of nylander who apparently is nothing compared to an aging Dman.

When you're trading one of the best D in the game, yes an average dman, meh prospect, late first are all considered spare parts. Zero chance washington would consider trading Carlson even if it was a good offer.

The usual nonsensical trade. Carlson isn't waiving his NTC for the Leafs.

Yeah when you consider that John Carlson as a defenseman is putting up more points then Nylander the deal isn't so great.

People confuse high scoring for good... but Washington isn't moving Carlson unless it is for something that no one could ever say no to.

The Caps are a north team. Go that way, go that way, go that way, go that way. Carlson is extremely good at that. Ovechkin is going to be 35 when next season starts. At some point his skills will diminish, but the Caps are still in his window. Ovechkin's amazing ability to avoid injury his entire career means that nothing is broken and wearing out faster than it should. He has a few years left and they are going to feed the machine until the wheels fall off.

Nylander is obviously a nice piece, Dermott is... okay, maybe good, maybe 3rd pair, Der and the 1st are futures which don't help the Ovechkin window much. It's just not enough to offset what Carlson brings period, much less what Carlson brings to the Caps and their plans/needs.

Only way you get Carlson is with Marner. Nylander is a 20g 60 point winger ..... in a career year he was on pace for 35 and 70. Hard pass Carlson is 2x the player nylander is. I know leaf fans think he’s “as good as Marner” or “elite” but outside Toronto nobody else agrees.

Trading a 23 yr old for a 30 year old just isn’t smart. I understand why the caps don’t want to move Carlson but it would be a stupid move for the leafs.
