I don't really get the point of the Anaheim trade. Kesler is "retired", and will be on the LTIR for the rest of his contract. And it's insured. So, it's not like you're saving the Ducks anything here, plus you're giving them another LD (On a bad contract) who there's no room for.

Ducks essentially take a bunch of bad cap on, getting little to no benefit out of it.

I didn't know his contract was insured, then yes I agree there's 0 reason for ANA to do it. Thanks for the clarification

Most are nowadays. The Horton one wasn't, which is why a team like Columbus was content to move him for someone who could at least still tie his own skates (Clarkson).

Kesler isn't waiving his NMC, And the odds of Dustin Byfuglien ever playing again are slim to none.

Haha something tells me Kesler wouldn’t have an issue with that trade LTIR looks the same everywhere.

Why do people write off Buff lol? He played 2018-2019.. he's had to much time to rehab and get 100% healthy and in shape..

The only reason I’d question his return would be his commitment level. He’s shown up out of shape more than once. If he’s used this time off constructively no doubt in my mind he’s capable of coming back and being a force a few more years but it comes down to him if he wants to bad enough. He hasn’t been out of the league too long to make a come back it just comes down to if he’s fully committed or not on a come back.

I don't think we'd take any of those players for free. We have nine, count 'm 9, LD's under contract or in the system, so we wouldn't take Johnson unless he came with a first-round pick, and I doubt we'd take him even then. Rodrigues is a bottom-6 forward and we'd rather give playing time to some of the youngsters we have on ELCs (like Comtois, Lundestrom or Groulx). Bjugstad isn't necessary at center (Getzlaf, Henrique, Steel, Zegras) or RW (Silfverberg, Terry, Rowney, and lefties). And there's no need for us to shift Kesler's contract or move Rowney, who is the perfect fourth-liner.
