Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2020
Published: Jul. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know that this would be a lot of Swiss players (4):
New Jersey is in a great cap situation: Like that, they would still have cap space this season.

Eriksson is overplayed. Absolutley, but he he is also a very respected player and would be a great mentor to the young corps. And Baertschi could still play for New Jersey

Boston could use a Palmieri to make a cup run. especially with half of the cap hit and I think he is worth a very late 1st round pick and a good prospect.

And I don't say they should pick 6 times in the first round over the next two seasons, but the Picks could be used to trade for assets as nothing is easier to move than picks

Nex season: Baertschi would come off the books 3.6m
Players to resign Senn, Gusev, Zajac, Anderson, McLeon and Carrick (Non of these players will make much more than they do now

The season after: Eriksson, Subban, Schneider would come off the books =21 million
Players to resign, Hughes, Zacha and Woods. That will not be close to that.

New Jersey could be a competitive team within 2 years

Let me know what you think

Devils aren't taking Eriksson and Baertschi unless Boeser is coming with them, and their 2021 1st might belong to us already.

I think the deal would actually be good for New Jersey. Also, consider that it is very likely that New Jersey is going to add 2 of Holtz, Quinn, Sanderson, Lundell or Mercer in the draft.

And I don't think Boeser ig going anywhere. Why should they trade him?

Lot of problems here. Eriksson needs to waive his NTC which I don't see happening for NJ. There is still a fight over which year's comp draft pick goes to the devils via the Coleman deal so that pick may be untradeable anyway.

That is fair Scooby, but what would you do if you were him. Living in New York, New York and play in the NHL for a team that is actually getting better, or living in Utica, New York (60'000 inhabitants), playing in the AHL, traveling not as nice and staying in 2nd class hotels?

I would move my NTC very quick if those were my two options.

Truthfully, i think theres a better than average shot that Eriksson and the Canucks agree to mutually terminate his contract after this season. After the 20-21 bonus is paid (or may have already on July 1) he's only owed a total of $5M for the remainder of the year AND next. So he'd be walking away from $5M that he could possibly earn by going to sign with another team. I think on the right team he could be a decent 3rd line guy making $1.5M-$2.5M that he could recoup in the next couple years which would have been the money he walked away from in Van.

Most of the players live in West Orange or Montclair. Utica is nice. There is a better chance of making a play off roster in Van over NJ before he retires.

I don't think you can just terminate the contract like that. I think the league would not be happy about it.

If its a mutual agreement? Byfuglien did it in Winnipeg. I dont think there is any stipulation in the CBA against it or repercussions, so long as both parties are in agreement.

I am actually a bit optimistic with New Jersey. if Hischier and Hughes keep developing they will be quite good down the middle. Blackwood and Senn look decent. The D is not great but fixable. They only need to get more scoring winger, and their two high draft picks could adress that need quite well

I doubt it. Whether it’s right or wrong, Sweeney seems to love him. Flat out refused to discuss him in a potential trade for stone.

Is he that good of a prospect? I haven't seen him or Studnika on any top 50 prospect lists. Seems like Bruins fans are over hyping the two a little bit.

It's not only about how we (fans) see him/them but how does the Bruins' direction see them. They don't want to move them as they're both top prospects for us. Vaakanainen is projected to have top4 potential but who knows if he could get better or fit well with McAvoy on the first pair. Studnicka is great and Bruins need someone at C after Krejci/Bergeron retire.

Not the deepest prospect pool either so we need to keep those guys; fine with now having them in top10 or top25 of whatever list, they're simply more valuable for the B's.

IMO If Kase works out, we'll pass on Palmieri because we would have to give a lot to get him next year.

It is always how you definie the prospect category I think. Boston has one of the weaker prospect pool in the NHL, so these guys are on top of their list, but this says more that they have a good chance of becoming NHLers (mid 6 forward, top 4-5 Ds) and not like an A level prospect that is expected to be a top 3 D or a top 6 forwards.

In the end it is just what the Bruins are deciding to do. One option is to try to run hard for the cup in the next 2-3 years as long as Bergeron, Rask and Marchand are still very good. Which I think the Bruins are one of the few teams that can, because they are among the very best in the league. The other option is just to let it play out and try to bring in younger players, but without really pushing for a cup

If you want a fun trip down memory lane, find a prospect list from 2015. You want number 3, Dylan Strome, or number 47, Thomas Chabot? How about the 25 derrick Pouliot? Go to the year before and you want number 1 NHL prospect Jonathan Drouin, or unranked David Pastrnak?

The dopes that make these lists just check out the stats, and make their list. You think a journalist is seeing hundreds and hundreds of prospects? No. Don’t pay too much attention to the bleacher report top 50 NHL prospects of 2020!

That is a bit unfair to be honest. Drouin will be a "basement hall of famer", while Pasternak will never make it. he might only make it to the regular hall of fame
