I see. I'd be fine without Broberg. Maybe Jones instead?
I believe Holland's strategy regarding Puljujarvi has changed as time has gone by. Early on in this saga he was rumored to have asked for Bryan Rust when Jim Rutherford inquired about JP. He was later rumored to have been looking for a draft pick and young NHL forward under team control. Holland may have changed his expectations since then, but it is obvious that he has not received an offer he feels is fair. I may be feeling overly optimistic, but I think Holland is working on bringing the player back to Edmonton.
Puljujarvi is an RFA without arbitration rights, he can be signed for a relatively paltry sum. If it turns out that he remains a 3rd line player, he will still bring value to the Oilers as a player or trade piece. His contract will be a relative deal and his trade value would likely to remain about the same. He can be exposed in the Seattle expansion draft, which might help deflect attention from other Oiler assets that the GM would like to hang onto. If Puljujarvi comes back and proves to be a top six forward, Holland can resign him and protect him in the expansion draft, or get a far better return for him in a trade.
In my mind, I can see only one scenario in which Holland trades JP before next season. If, at the draft, a prospect Holland really wants remains available, and if the offer for JP includes a draft pick that allows Holland to select that prospect, then a deal might occur.
