very close in value, think San Jose might lose this trade though

would you switch our 2020 2nd to Colorado's 2020 2nd? We'd also include a 2021 3rd.

Yeah San Jose isn't paying what's basically a late 1st rounder for a 30-45 point guy they know they have the leverage trying to acquire.

To be honest, we don't really need/want Paquette either. I'd rather keep true.

If it was the Colorado 2nd, this would be much more fair

A 23-year-old middle-6-forward prospect and the 34th overall pick in a deep draft for a guy who turns 31 before the season begins and one year of a bottom-6 forward -- the perfect example of a deal San Jose shouldn't make.

I think Tampa would push for the early 2nd this year. However, if SJ absolutely refused that, and there wasn't a similar offer elsewhere, then I could see Tampa either taking that deal or asking for a slight upgrade in player and taking him plus just the later 2nd. In any case, the original trade seemed pretty balanced but could be tweaked.

Because Goodrow is on an extremely capfriendly (no pun intended) contract, is coming off the best season of his career, can play any position, and is a fantastic penalty killer. Also San Jose gave Tampa back a 3rd in the trade, so the trade was essentially Goodrow to Tampa so San Jose could move up ~35 spots in the draft.

Killorn could definitely get a late 1st on his own if there's interest from 2 or 3 clubs, as that's exactly how Goodrow and a 3rd landed SJ a late 1st. I figured him plus Paquette for a guy who is a 4th liner but has some upside plus an early 2nd was reasonable. Killorn often goes for True+Col 2nd in proposals around here, so moving up between 20-25 spots for both Tampa players doesn't seem terrible.

Any team that gives up a late 1st for Killorn deserves the ridicule they will receive

Goodrow's extra year at his caphit was also a big factor why several teams were interested.

Rather just try and sign Granlund or Hoffman instead of giving up draft picks

Yeah certainly possible the Preds go one of those routes instead. Johnson may consider waiving for Nashville and he would likely be a good fit for them, so I involved them in this particular agm.

True is a tweener AHLer and 4th line C. He won’t ever be anything more than that. A 40 point guy is a legit second liner in the nhl. Sorry. You take this trade all day in SJ.

No sorry, we don’t take this trade all day in SJ if we’re smart. If it’s our 2nd, San Jose hangs up and laughs.

I agree with the COL 2nd switch, but I also take those two any day of the week. Killorn would work VERY well in our system, and Paquette is hella sandpapery. Also, we'd be able to sell t-shirts with pictures of baguettes on them.

If SJ's 2nd isn't in play, then Tampa would likely either ask for the SJ 2021 3rd as well or switch True for Gregor and do Gregor+Col 2020 2nd. There will likely be at least a couple teams in on Killorn but thought a package deal might help both teams more.

lol. Dude. Two established NHLers for a career AHLer and a pick that has about a 10% chance of being a regular NHLer, on a team starved of quality forwards. 1000000% you take that trade.
