Trades
1.
STL
  1. 2020 5th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Bozak is an obvious option to move. He’s effective and only has a year left so I imagine he’ll return a mid-round pick or a forgotten prospect. I have no idea who is on his NTC list so that’s obviously a factor, but he’d help a lot of teams around the league as either a support player or a half season rental who you can sell for triple at the deadline.
2.
STL
  1. 2020 4th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Allen is coming off a fantastic return to form and the team would probably prefer to keep him, but he’s another obvious cap casualty. Similar to Bozak he’s effective and only under contract for one more season. He would probably fetch a mid-2nd in a normal year but due to the cap and amount of UFA goalies, the Blues probably need to pay a bit to move him. He’s another guy who you could easily flip for triple the price. Interested teams would be: MTL, SJS, OTT, DET, BUF, WSH, etc
MTL
  1. Allen, Jake
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (STL)
3.
STL
The Blues will have to really pinch Dunn on his contract. Sure he’s worth a long and far contract in my book, but the truth is he has no arbitration rights and played 17 minutes a night so he’ll take what he’s given. An offersheet would probably be real appealing for him, but if one comes it’ll be in the 4 mil range and the Blues will have to figure it out.

Seattle could pluck him. Hard to say or a prospect with a good ceiling.

Seattle could pluck him. Hard to say but they would need a reason not to as in a prospect with a good ceiling.

Hmm, I wonder when they’ll be allowed to make trades

Very possible that the Habs would take that deal. Or some team would take it.

There’s no reason not to if you have the space.

Since Marleau got attached to a first in a similar situation, I doubt any team in the league will take on Allen's contract without at least a 2nd. That would be a poor use of space unless you're team like the red wings who dont have a legit starting goalie

Zero chance. You don't take a backup going with that price tag to move up 10 or 15 spots in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

I think MTL will have to pay less than a 4th to receive Allen and a 3rd

Bozak and Allen are definitely tradeable, but it's hard to see them being traded without any salary retained or money coming back.

5mill for a 34 year old 3rd line C, coming off a 29 point season is hard to swallow for any trade partner.

Allen is a really good backup/1B, but has proven to be an average starter at best. Issue here is that he's paid like a #1. I can't think of many owners that want to pay a backup more than their starter. Maybe PHI since Hart is on his ELC

I’m really surprised Allen gets viewed with no value or negative value.

I don’t think the Blues can retain any salary though. Maybe you trade them in a three way trade where a low-end team retains half and gets the nicest assets.

The title is definitely speculation. He could easily go to a lottery team since they are the ones typically with the most cap space to be bought out. He’d be free then to sign with a contender at a much lower cap hit.

In this cap world he has negative value. The only chance imo that a team takes him without compensation (salary retention/draft capital) would be a team like the red wings who have the flexibility cap wise and a need in net.

I don’t see what’s in it for Steen. Why am I moving my family from STL in a global pandemic with the hopes that maybe I get signed by a contender to play my final season of hockey? Maybe it works if STL re-signs him, but they need any cap space necessary and I’m not positive if that would even be allowed.

He doesn’t have to play if he didn’t want to and a buyout would be the best option for him since he would be compensated without playing. It would be allowed assuming there wasn’t a handshake agreement he would come back to STL similar to Orpik with Washington.

What? If he’s not gonna play he’d retire or let the Blues pull ltir shenanigans bs like the Blackhawks. I don’t know why he just wouldn’t play his final year in Saint Louis though. I’m very sketchy on the potential orpik situation. That may work if it’s legal, but wasn’t the NHL upset about that?

I haven’t seen any indication that the Blues are serious about signing Pietrangelo either (I mean who gives out 110 million to Faulk/Schenn/Scandella with your captain unsigned.) So this is probably all moot lol.

the penguins don't have cap space for that.
It's a fairy tale to think you can dump him there.

There are a lot of teams that might not have cap issues, but that doesn't mean they have cap space. They will tread water.
Most of the teams with space and need are probably on his list.
It also does not help your cause at all that he's 34 years old.

He did have a good showing in the playoffs last year, you should pray for a repeat.
You may have missed the opportunity to get out of that on a rare high.

As much as you think he returns a mid pick.....you will be hoping to move him for future considerations or a very low round pick.
Much like the penguins will Bjugstad.

His NTC ends in February, so he may decide to waive his NTC now to go to a team of his choice instead of waiting and risk getting traded to a less-desirable team at the deadline

I would certainly take him on. He’s only making $1-$2 million more than what it would take to sign a backup in free agency, and IMO he’s better than all available backups.

Just following your logic what incentive is it for him to play during COVID. The risk is going to be the same in STL or any other major city. The cards are entirely in his hands and my main point was the title of this thread is pure speculation. He could easily be traded to a lottery team to be bought out or have an increase role for a next contract. He could stay in STL and chase a cup. We can play what if’s all day on what’s going on his mind.
