Description
This article (https://www.stlouisgametime.com/2020/6/29/21305232/the-most-exciting-blues-hypothetical) on STL Game Time outlines how the Blues could buyout Faulk and actually gain more cap space than his contract value for the next two years. The cap hit only starts to hurt the Blues after the 2022 season. They'd have him on the books till 2034 but only 4 seasons would be a cap hit over $2 million. Its an interesting loophole, is this really better than trading a guy as a cap dump though?

Would rather get sent a pick than Wallman. Even then, I think the jets will have better option than an aging bozak. For example, I see stastny being a available this offseason. That said not a bad trade or even a bad option for the jets

I think Faulk has a lot of upside and they will probably expose him during the expansion draft if he hasnt returned to peak performance. Other than that, interesting scenario. For the trade, I dont see the blues giving up a center for a defenseman that doesnt crack their lineup. Theyd either need another forward, prospect, pick, or combination to move Bozak.

I don't think the Blues would want to pay him till 2034.

Wow. The buyout actually looks like a better solution than I would have thought.

Tom Stillman is not that rich as NHL owners go, I’d say it’s quite unlikely he pays Faulk 35+ million to not play for the team.

Ah yes but out the guy before he even plays a game on his new contract. Sounds like a perfect idea to make sure every current or future players respect the organization.

Yup - I have long been saying that Faulk's contract is the most perfect buy-out contract in the whole NHL. By the time the buyout cap hit starts to hurt the cap will likely be going up.
