I hate Boston but I have to agree.

Bergeron is an insanely good 2-way player.

Easily will have a 1000 points by the time his career his done

He was a slam dunk

4 Selkes (tied for most all time with Gainey) and 9 straight noms is just icing on the cake

Why would I want to try to change your mind?

Anybody else ever notice that Boston is the only team whose first two centers were both second-round draft picks?

For sure he is! I remember talking with a buddy who's a B's fan before game 7 vs the leafs and he asked me what I thought would happen. I simply said if Bergeron shows up they'll win

I think he probably will be.

Him being nominated for the Selke this year is ridiculous. He wasn't even close to being a top 3 Selke level player this year.

I agree with everything except the end.

I think it is extremely debatable who is better defensively between Bergeron and Kopitar.

Bergeron has been on a great team defensively almost his whole career and especially the seasons he won a selke trophy.

For the majority of Kopitars career he has been on a bad team defensively and still been top 2 defensively and won 2 salkes with worse defense than Boston.

Add on: Kopitar is better than Bergeron offensively and has had ****ty linemates his whole career except for Brown and also Gaborik when he was healthy. Kopitar has been better offensively the last 3 years as well while playing with Iafallo and an aging Brown than Bergeron while he was playing with top 3 NHL wingers on each side.

I'm not a Bergeron hater why any means, but he is overrated to a small degree and Kopitar is extremely underrated. It makes me sick.

You would also think he'd at least have 80 points while playing with Marchand and Pastrnak.

He was on a 81 pts pace in '17-18, had 79 last year and was on 100 pts pace and 75 pts pace this year.

Anyways, he always was a 60-65 pts player.

Also, it's not all about pts total and it's not really problematic since Bruins have been elite in the past years

Based on there being multiple players who were better defensively than him. I would make an argument that Mark Stone, Phil Danault, Anthony Cirelli, Gabe Landeskog were all more deserving.

So do it. I'm game to see what info you have that shows they were better defensively and more deserving of a Selke nomination.

I honestly don't give a **** about "pace" It means nothing to me. Just because he was on "pace" doesn't mean he would have actually gotten the points to get that total and he been in the lineup.

Same can be said for opposite

It's stupid to think Tarasenko wouldn't have hit the 70 pts mark just because he got injured after 10 games. It can happen but chances are slim that he doesn't get there

I guess when you have a healthy lineup, it's normal to think like that

crazy thing to say.

this is like saying the earth is round. obvious everybody who is not a complete idiot.

Bergeron is extremely good. I don't care how many points some guys score, Bergeron is one of the most difficult players to play in the playoffs.

Player A gets 60 pts.
Player B gets 55 pts.

Player A played 82 games
Player B played 55 games

I guess you're taking player A?

The thing with hockey is, that it is like two sports.

There is the regular season and there are the playoffs.

Centres I'd like to have most in the playoffs: Crosby, Bergeron, O'Reilly, Kopitar

I know, but in the end, this discussion is pointless anyways.

There was a team last season that had two centres with more than 100 points each. This team ended up outside of the playoffs. Are those players great players. Yes absolutley.

Do they deserve part of the blame for missing the playoffs. absolutley.

On the other side there was a team last season that had 1 player with over 70 points, one over 60, one over 50. This team ended up wining the stanley cup.

Don't get me wrong, the two players on the first example are great players, but while scoring 116 and 105 points, they were +3 and +2. And while +/- is a bit out of fashion, it still tells you something. The same players were -6 and -7 this season.

Here's a comparable to Patrice Bergeron: Bob Gainey. If Gainey was a first-ballot HHOFer, then Bergeron is a deadlock 1st-ballot HHOFer.

Even if Gainey had more Cups than Bergeron, Bergeron still has the same amount of Selke wins as Gainey and there's a high chance he could get even more. On top of that, Bergeron has had better stats and way better offensively than Gainey. Sure he has had the benefit of playing with Marchand and Pastrnak but Gainey played with a bunch of HHOFers. Heck Bergeron still put up amazing stats even before the arrival of the Pastrnak (2014) and Marchand (2010).

So yeah. Bergeron isn't overrated.
