Lafreniere

Created by: NickC1988
Team: 2020-21 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2020
Published: Jul. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
An immediate impact, Lafreniere instantly makes this team a threat with much more depth. Anderson has been injured all year and struggling, I can see him taking less to bet on himself and lead himself to UFA status. I can see them going after a big free agent the following summer with Foligno, Dubinsky, Nash, Savard, and Murray expiring. I'm not quite sure what the plan is with these defensemen though, $3M+ is a lot of money to have in the press box. Nutivaara probably replaces Savard next season. Overall, Columbus looks to have a bright future if Lafreniere falls into their lap.

Um.

#1: Dubinsky is LTIRetired. He's not playing again.
#2: After having a summer-long snitfit three years ago over his current pay rate, there is no way Darren Ferris will allow Anderson to sign that steep of a discount.
#3: Gavrikov has rightfully earned more than that.
#4: Where'd Grigorenko go?

I fixed the lines and gave Gavrikov more. Giving Gavrikov more likely means one of Savard or Murray could walk, especially if Bjorkstrand, Grigorenko, and Texier are due for raises. Anderson doesn't have much negotiating leverage. 4 points in 25 games is not going to cut it, especially in this economy. His health history also makes him riskier than your typical RFA.

Anderson's health history consists of just this year, really; he arguably earned better than that with the other two seasons he had under his current contract. And he's got one big leverage tool - he's arbitration eligible and one year away from UFA. This past season arguably affects term more than it does AAV.
