Lafreniere

Created by: NickC1988
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2020
Published: Jul. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There's a million different ways to approach this roster. Lafreniere on a line with Toews or Kane? Either way it's hard to imagine many teams being able to handle that top 6. Seabrook is healthy, I would kill to scratch him for Mitchell, but who knows how likely that truly is.

Trading Saad is starting to make more and more sense. Crawford is older, and can't handle the workload like he used to, especially the past couple of seasons. Pittsburgh has two goaltenders that are looking for raises. Saad is a 200 foot forward that will fit in well.

Smith will walk, Seabrook gets bought out after this season, he will primarily be used as a veteran mentor this season. This will save $3M next season, then essentially be a wash the next. While this is costly, it frees up enough cap space. In 2021-2022 when Seabrook's buy out is $6.5M, Murphy and De Haan will be at expiry (Barring they don't get moved or extended), and the hawks will likely have Mitchell, Boqvist, Brodin, Beaudin, Carlsson, Gilbert, Regula, Krys and Keith as viable options as 6 defensemen with room to sign/trade for a veteran. The hawks can benefit (and afford) to sign a veteran goaltender for two seasons to push Jarry.

I think they'd at least consider it.

no they wouldn't.

ZAR is young and one of the best defensive forwards in the league.
Jarry is young and has starter potential.
Saad is a rental, and cost way too much.

They ain't taking that.

You”re overpaying for Brodin. Nic Beaudin and Lucas Carlsson aren’t mentioned, and they can both take places in the top six.
Islanders will offer much more than that for Greiss

Pittsburgh has zero interest, or space, for a $6M Saad.

I think Minnesota would be more pissed than St Louis tbh. They were both good at the same time and Chicago always smacked em in the playoffs, and now that they are both bad Chicago smacks them in lottery too? Thats just straight up disrespectful by the RNG

Isles aren't offering him one single penny. He'd be their 3rd goalie.

As a Hawks fan, I'd do the MIN trade. Id only do the PIT trade at the TDL if the Hawks are out of it.

Islanders have no money, Pulock and Barzal are due for a big raise.

Considering how Pittsburgh gets hammered with injuries every season, I think it's possible they explore.

I mean, the hawks are going to get #1 and not get more pieces to contend with? That's not very Bowman like, he'd try to make a splash.

If we get Laf, Saad probabl should be traded I agree, but I think we can get more. And i'm a huge believer that we need to keep strome. Most contenders are 3 centers deep (look no further than St. Louis). Toews, Dach, Strome is a damn good center core. I want to see how our defensive prospects develop instead of trading Strome

STL also has a very good Defense which was also a trademark of Hawks cups as well. Hawks didn't exactly have great center depth for their 3 cups runs. Not bad depth, but not great either. I 100% see your point, but defense is a must if we're looking for a cup. We can probably develop a #3C faster than a #1D...no?

Agree that defence is needed to win the cup, I just think it would e smart to see what we have before we go trading one of our best young forwards. Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudan, Vlasic, Regula, Krys, Carlson, Kalynuk all our guys that we need to see how they develop first. Also I've made the comment about us not having good center depth on our runs, but that was also 5-10 years ago and I think the game has changed a bit since then. Plus we were incredible on the wings which could cover up our issues at center. Toews was awesome on the top line, Kane could make any center look good on the 2nd, and we had a ton of bottom 6 depth on the wings. Kruger was also a pretty good piece to have down there.
