I don't know man, they're both UFA in 2 years, not sure MTL should do that.

My first thought was overpay by Montreal, but lindholm and Weber sounds amazing. Not sure if this fits the team development though.

MTL is overpaying here IMO. Lindholm isn't signed for much longer. Maybe if the 2020 first rounder was below 15 overall, then take Juulsen out of the trade and perhaps.

Recent 8th overall picks...
2012 - Derrick Pouliot
2013 - Rasmus Ristolainen (buf)
2014 - William Nylander
2015 - Zack Werenski
2016 - Alexander Nylander (buf)
2017 - Casey Mittelstadt (buf)
2018 - Adam Boqvist (too early to tell)
2019 - Philip Broberg (too early to tell)

Domi is better than most of these picks in a straight up deal... Buffalo is desperate to compete now, not in 3 years.

It means that at 8th overall, its not a sure thing. So people pretending Montreal fans are asking for the moon for Domi, are fooling themselves. There is risk involved, whereas you know exactly what you get from Domi.

No MTL fans are fooling themselves thinking an RFA is worth more than a top 8 pick with 7-8 years of control before they get to where Domi is.

I look forward to seeing which 8th overall pick the Buffalo Sabres botch this time. I am sure their irate fanbase will love that player more than someone helping them win next season.

Would you trade Domi straight up For Dadanov if the both had similar contracts?

Its not the same situation. Both those players can contribute next year. The only similarity is the age gap. 8th overall is at least 1 year away, and who knows if all this Covid stuff delays prospects at all. Sabre fans are irate, as a GM would you tell them to wait another 3-4 years to compete?

I asked a pretty simple question, would you trade Domi for Dadonov if they both had similar contracts? I assume that’s a no even tho Dadonov has better production. If you won’t trade Domi for better production he’s not worth pick #6 or #8.

That's ridiculous. Domi is still young (unlike Dadonov) and contributes in the NHL currently (unlike 8th overall pick). He currently fits what Buffalo is trying to do (make the playoffs). Dadonov might produce more, but is nearing the end of his NHL career and is UFA not RFA. He does not fit Montreal's current plans at all. Again, other than "age gap" you proposed a very poor comparison. All while ignoring the fact Buffalo fans are demanding results next year, which is why getting Domi for a piece with 7-8 years control makes sense to them.

If you can't comprehend any of this, there is no point in arguing further. There is logic to is, and you are countering with illogical comparisons.

It’s ridiculous that Dadonov had 2 years at 70 points and the same point total this year as Domi but he’s not worth as much as Domi because he’s not Hab?

Nobody gives a crap what Buffalo fans want. They just signed Skinner for $9M, traded for Miller, added Marcus Johansson, it didn’t work. They have to do what’s best for the team and overpaying for Domi isn’t it.

Also pick #8 could be under control for twice as long as Domi.

Dadonov is a 31 year old UFA RW/LW. 2017-18 0.87 PPG, 2018-19 0.85 PPG, 2019-20 0.68 PPG.

Domi is a 25 year old RFA C/LW. 2017-18 0.54 PPG, 2018-19 0.87 PPG, 2019-20 0.61 PPG.

Again, 6 years younger, different contract status, different positions, Dadonov trending down. The only reason you choose 3 years instead of 4-5 years is because Dadonov bolted to the KHL. Montreal and Buffalo's goals are different. IT is a bad comparison.

Buffalo could sign Domi to 7 years, and maintain 7 years of control in the deal. He can also contribute his prime years to Buffalo. "Nobody gives a crap what Buffalo fans want" is probably the dumbest thing you've said. Their team hasn't made the playoffs in 9 years, and don't show signs of ending that if they stay the course. Skinner is getting older and Miller and Johansson aren't key players. They have been doing "whats best for the team" for years and nothing has changed.

That being said, Domi is awesome and I would gladly not trade him, but if you are going to argue, make good comparisons, this isn't it.

You’re one and only argument that Domi is worth #8 is that BUF is bad and they should want Domi.
