Serge is good but I'd rather have 2 really good pieces considering so many needs

is there a difference? you get Serge who can play and who we can afford, whose young, and fills a need now, and Sanderson whose the second best d prospect in this years draft who you let develop. You still have a blue chip LHD + a nice RW right shot forward.

TB says yes. Serge is going to be a top pairing defenseman. However can not afford that contract. Still have hedman and McDonah as top two left defense. Probably regret it in two years.

Ty could make their roster next year I think. He has so much god damn potential, I hope it translates to the NHL.

I wouldn't move Smith.
AZ @ 10 th pick and an add of Isles 2nd next year and maybe a B prospect
If Serg gets OS'd its a worse pkg than I just posted.

2nd best D prospect in an incredibly weak year for defenceman... I would love Holtz, wouldn't take Sanderson with AZ pick. Sergachev is great but I don't think I would move Smith at this point, in my view he isn't too far off from those other defenceman from the 18 draft.

Next year is pretty deep for defense. Assuming we get Vancouvers pick for next season we could grab two defenders + have Serge on the team playing while being "somewhat" competitive after moving Smith.

I love Ty, but Serge is a cornerstone player that fills an instant need with size and talent. We can't OS him if we pay him 8 mill because we dont have 2 First Round Picks, 1 Second Round Pick , 1 Third Round Pick. to me he aint worth 10...

yeah which kinda cements my point that they should avoid Sanderson. grab 2 high end wingers (3 if you don't move the pick) this year to build around Hughes and Hischier, likely land a fantastic defenceman in the 21 draft to come up with Smith and we're looking very good for the future at all positions. could even have a 2nd first next year if Palmieri gets moved at the TDL

In my view Ty can definitely be a cornerstone player for us

Not calling you out, you seem to be the only person to have a negative draft stock in Sanderson. Why is that? My point of this post was we would be replacing Smith with Sanderson (sure its not lateral but they are both first round defenseman with tremendous upside) and in the process we get someone who can help us compete. If we are in the market for a dman we gotta go quality instead of just getting dmen because of need.

I find him to be super overvalued (most defenceman are this year because it's a weak crop, he would likely be ranked between 20-32 if he was eligible for next years draft). I don't like his lateral movement, he's okay in a straight line but this notion that he's some great skater has come out of thin air to me. He has a good stride but his top speed is nothing special and he doesn't have the agility or wherewithal to make plays after he gets down to the other end. His momumental rise on most draft boards is concerning to me, when covid hit and everything went on pause literally everybody had him as a mid to late 1st rounder and now all of a sudden he's a top 10 talent? Based on what? He is a good shutdown defender yes, probably the best in this class but if you're taking a defenceman that high I think they need to have top pairing upside and I don't see it in him. His offensive toolset is not impressive to me, like I said he doesn't move laterally all that well, he doesn't walk the line with ease, he's not overly creative in the offensive zone, his shot is I would say average, he doesn't get it off all that quick, I don't think he's a dynamic enough skater to produce at the next level, his hands are clunky and he will often lose the puck when he's forced to hold onto it, all of these things were reflective of his point production which was nothing to write home about. I don't see enough there to warrant a top 15 selection especially in a draft class loaded with a bunch of dynamic forwards in that range. I think 2nd pairing defensive defencman will be his ceiling which aren't extremely difficult to acquire in the NHL via trade or free agency, 1st or 2nd line scoring wingers? different story.

Just my personal feeling on him, you or anyone else are welcome to disagree.
