Stuck with the same defense

Description
I’m of the opinion Dubas will go into next season without making any moves on d. Give the young guys a chance to prove they can work as a unit. The reason I believe this is because the thing missing (top rhd pared with Reilly) is going to require moving a big contract or all of the 3rd line. That will either be poor value on a major part of the top 4 forwards, or deplete the bottom 6 depth. Trading johnsson and Kerfoot for better suited bottom 6 forwards and gaining the cap space would be ideal. See what the young defenders can do and make adjustments in season.

Cant see Calgary wanting another 6.9 million for 3 years in their bottom six. Particularly for left shot forwards.

Player value is in Calgarys favor. But cap and team need make zero sense for this trade.

Don't know how you can say "the same defence" (as last year). Barrie and Ceci aren't on the team, and hopefully Reilly and Muzzin aren't on LTIR for long stretches
I know you saved cap but Calgary gets the two best players in the trade. Bennett is 3rd line winger at best, not a productive centre and Jankowski is a 4th or 5th centre.

That's a tough one because I want the Flames to do something a lot more flashy, but they are clearly getting the better of this deal. Kerfoot and Johnsson would give the Flames two .5 ppg 3rd liners that are paid accordingly and give the Flames 2/3 of a solid 3rd line.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Backlund - Tkachuk
Johnsson - Kerfoot - Dube
Lucic - Ryan - XXXXX

Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - XXXXX
Valimaki - XXXXX

Rittich
XXXX

Still roughly $10 million left to add a top 4 Dman, a backup/platoon goalie and some depth players.

Not sexy, but a good deal for the Flames.

Jankowski’s value is absolute zero. He probably won’t get a QO. So ot’s keerfoot and Johnsson for bennet... yuck...

That's actually quite possible. I just believe it may be a down year... he may bounce back next year!

I would way rather let Janko walk and spend the money in Free agency on a RD or top six forward.

That's way too much money tied up in the bottom six.

Yep, that's why it's tough. On one hand this is a steal for the Flames value wise, plus it's a better team than we have now.

On the other hand, I hope they do better than this when they try to improve the team this off season.

I take Bennett and the 3 years of cap space. I think there are going to be some cheap short term deals available in FA to fill bottom six positions with quality players with the cap staying flat. If teams are gonna tie up that kind of money it needs to be on top six forwards or top 4 D.

Novel idea, don't click on my AGM's if you have nothing constructive.

Going to Toronto? I would agree. I know the value, player wise is low for Toronto, but I think they will have to sell low to get cap space back. Unless Dermott takes his QO, even then one of Kerf, Mango or Engvall would have to be moved.
