A 1 year deal would cost more than that -- and I'm pretty sure he said that with the fallout from COVID-19, he wants a more guaranteed/longterm contract.

I think with the flat cap and halls below standards season, its possible he takes a 1 year "win now" deal. if he plays well, he'll make a lot more on his next contract

The 1 year 'Hossa Deal' which I do think makes sense for Hall to take a 1 or 2 year deal to try and win now and bet on himself to earn a big contract when cap goes up. Only problem is if it replicates Hossas cap % hes looking at 11mill a season

yeah I was considering the cap hit percentage too but it would be difficult to fit him on this team at 11 million. He could definitely sign for more than 8.5 and there are contracts that could be moved to accommodate him, but I doubt he gets 11 million. Hossa was a far more consistent player when he signed with Detroit

A decent bottom 6 placeholder we could easily retain on and flip for a higher pick yet at the deadline. Really Don’t see the risk in taking Calvert.

Hall will have to make a decision.

If he wants to win now, Avs are really the only contender with cap space and a reasonable chance of winning in 2021

If he’s looking for job security (as mentioned above), than there are very few TRUE contenders (contending for a cup in next 2-3 years) with 8+mil cap space long term

yup. I know. Honestly I could also see him just re-signing in Arizona. it may not be a contender but its a good quality of life. If hall isn't motivated to win a cup he could stay. Only he knows what he wants though obviously

It's a flat cap the following season too though

Maybe he signs his 'Hossa Deal' with ARI. Wont be able to accomadate big contract but he can stay in same city for two or three more years make his money living in a great place and when cap rises take off for big money

Doesn't really make sense to sign frolik and trade calvert. I'd rather have calvert and without signing frolik you can afford him as well.

I did an AGM yesterday showing that Colorado can go up to $12m on an UFA (i.e. Hall) on a 1 year deal, so it's definitely possible to do a Hossa-type deal with the same cap %.

Trading Calvert is definitely NOT something a contender should be doing. He's exactly the sort of player you win with in the playoffs, and he's an important part of our dominant 4th line.

If you want to move out someone to find some extra capspace then replace Jost/Compher/Donskoi with Kaut - who incidentally should be on this roster to begin with anyways instead of Frolik.

if he signs with Arizona I dont see him taking a short deal. They will probably give him a longer term deal. Hall is 28 so if he stayed in Arizona for 2 or 3 more years he'd be 30/31. tougher to sign a big contract then. I could see a one year deal max or just a long term contract

not according to Friedman who said Hall has a desire to win first and is tired of losing, and he has "already made a lot of money over his career". Based on that it would not be shocking that he does a 1 year hired gun deal or does a long term team friendly deal so he has chances for multiple cups.

Either way he is going to Hossa his career from he sounds of it

he played really well in his games this year so i could see it. It's all about finding a spot for him though we have a packed house. If we go the route that you've propsed i think jost would be on a short leash and could be used as a piece to find a more solid 3C

It really all depends on how he is playing and who is injured. I think his natural position is center and the hope is he would be our 3C when he signed his extension last year

Kaut looked good in his 9 game call up this year and will very likely be on the roster next season. The only reason he's not on the playoff roster right now (over Tynan or Dries) is because Sakic doesn't want to burn a year of his ELC by giving him 1 more game.

Compher plays C right now, but his north-south game is better suited to playing on the wing.

he played most of the season as 3C, when he moves to Wing is more to be in the Top 6 filling in for someone

who would you rather keep, Jost or Compher? Given that if they did sign hall to a one year deal, and Kaut is scheduled to make the team, one of those players would be the odd man out
