Just after a brief glance, Johnsson is not returning a 2nd and doubt Kerfoot nets (2) 3rds either. Also pretty sure under the new CBA the AZ and CBJ trades are cap circumvention but could very well be wrong also.

I know Edmonton needs a 3c but I really don’t think kerfoot is who they would want. That also leaves them with zero seconds and third rounders for two straight years don’t think that’s the best idea.

You are crazy to think that Kessel waives his modified NMC to go back to Toronto. You are double crazy to think he waives it again to go to CBJ.

Kessel is happy in ARZ. Good weather, good year round, no fan or media criticism. He can just play and collect his paycheck in peace. Why on earth would he ever agree to leave ARZ to end up in CBJ? He has the cups already, leave the man alone

I'm not too worried about the values but I've been told they were fine by others. I don't think it's cap circumvention but I'm not an expert either.

The entire point was trying to cut out his 1.2m retention.

I get what you are trying to achieve, but you need to account for the fact that he has a modified NMC and the likelihood he’d ever go back to Toronto, is literally zero.

I live in TO, the media and fans chewed him up and spit him out. Treated the guy like crap, trash talked him daily - no chance he agrees to come back. That bridge is burned.

Dubas first draft was 2015 right? So the only player he’s ever taken below the third that’s played in the NHL is timashov? Saying he’s excellent in the later rounds is preposterous.

Dubas and Hunter split the 2015 draft with Hunter getting the later picks.

Dubas's only real drafts were 2018 and 2019, where he did quite well.

Kral in the 7th round, Aburusezee (who is currently a top-75 prospect league wide and was the freshman leading scorer in NCAA this year) was a 4th rounder, SDA was a 3rd rounder, Abramov (one of the best players in the Q this year) was a 4th rounder.

It is anything but preposterous.

Right, so zero NHL games. You’re saying excellent with zero NHL games. How’s the weather on the planet you live on?

You can't trade retained amounts or buyout amounts. Once they're on your books they stay on your books until they expire.

You (Leafs) are paying AZ a 1st and a 2nd to take a retained CAP dump in Kessel.
Then turning around and asking the Jackets for a 1st, 4th, 5th, & 6th for the same CAP dump in Kessel? And not even retaining?
Jackets have 0 interest in Kessel or giving up 4 picks for him.

There have been like 10 prospects over the past 2 years that have gotten NHL time. Sandin is one of them. He should've gone in the top-10. Robertson will get ice time very soon. SDA and Aburusezee aren't far behind. Kokkonen is a top pairing DMan in Liiga rn and could probably be in the NHL.

I'd say the diff between a 4th/5th/6th and a 2nd is that substantial, and the retainment from the AZ trade is still there.

Legal trade under the old cba. Unless they are changing the two retention limit to one under the new cba, this should be allowed.

Sandin? I mean the rest of his draft picks are still developing. Quite well too. Been very happy with his drafting so far.

Oh yes, that first round pick is a great example of how Dubas is excellent in the later rounds.

He might be. No one has any clue. The thing about most late round picks is that even if they’re developing nicely, the vast, overwhelming majority of the time, they’re nothing.

You said Dubas is excellent in the later rounds.

Sandin was drafted in the first round.

Dubas has drafted zero players from the later rounds that have ever played an NHL game. But ya, sure, he’s excellent!

Well he was 29th OA so very close to a 2nd. In fact, he is the player drafted latest to have played more then 25 games.

I’ve seen plenty of drafting that is **** right from the get go. Seems to be drafting platters just before they really break out. You’re right, they could go no where.

No, I'm pointing out we can't use later rounds with NHL experience as a measure because later rounds aren't playing in the NHL yet. If you want we can look at their Jr numbers:

Abruzzese (4th rounder, 2019): NCAA, 31 gp, 14g, 30a, 44 pts
Abramov (4th rounder, 2019): QMJHL: 63 gp, 35g, 41a, 76 pts
Kokkonen (3rd rounder, 2019): Liiga (D): 39, 10 pts, 19 minutes a night

To be fair, how many 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. Rounders make it to the NHL in what? 2 years or less? I don't have numbers in front of me, but I imagine not many right across the league.

Generally, any picks outside of the 2nd round are considered projects and need to be developed more so not sure why you're being critical of 3rd, 4th and even later picks.
