Edmonton would be better off trading a 2nd round pick for Jake Allen then any of that

or just signing a UFA goalie.. Allen will cost more then few of the decent 1B goalies on the market so no point in giving away another 2nd round pick

Except Edmonton needs an actual starting goaltender and with their lack of cap, they aren't getting anything of value in free agency.

I don't see why EDM needs an actual starting goalie when the league is trending towards 1A/1B. Koskinen showed he can easily fill one of those roles so just need another ~35 game goalie. You think they won't have "cap" for a 1B but 4.3M of Jake Allen works for you. Reality check can easily sign Griess or Khudobin for less then that

St. Louis has been playing tandem goalies for years because it's easier to find a strong tandem pair and more reliable then a goalie of Vasilevskiy's caliber. No idea what happens with Mike Smith's contract next year but either way, Allen's an improvement over both of them. If you think the oilers can win a cup with Koskinen who'se a 32 year old goalie with subpar stats, then I think Edmonton is wasting years of mcdavid and draisaitl.

Allen was decent this year but only played 25 games behind a top 3 defence core by no means would I consider him an upgrade til he puts up numbers on a bad defensive team. Plus the last like 5 cups have all gone to teams that run tandem goalies. Yes, 1 goalie takes over in the playoffs but that's the point to have a goalie that has played 20-25 less games during the season so they don't burnout for the playoffs. Also don't know if you know what subpar means.. because Koskinen was better than league average in both GAA and SV%

No team in the past twenty years won a cup without a primetime goalie or with a goalie that was slightly better than league average. Edmonton overpaid on Koskinen and I don't see how you can make an argument that the oilers win a cup with 6 mill in tandem goaltenders

Good thing Allen isn't primetime. So no point in getting him..

He beat out Elliot, Halak, and Ben Bishop. He lost the starting job to a goaltender that was being considered for the Calder and the vezina. There's a reason why he's second in GAA and fourth in SV%

There were 30 goalies who played at least 35 games this season, I think it's reasonable to conclude those were the "starters". Of those 30 goalies, Koskinen ranked 6th in save percentage.

They don't need a starter. They have one of the best already.
