I would prefer Tyler Johnson of these two options for 2C. Stepan has really struggled offensively the last couple of years and is an extra 1.5 against the cap. Even if we have to give up a decent asset for Johnson say a 2nd round pick or Casey Middlestadt.

Johnson isn't leaving Tampa for Buffalo, Yeah not happening no reason to leave a cup contending team for a bottom feeding team.

      Tyler Johnson....$5,000,000...........31

      Try the UFA route:
      name...................estimated to sign.....pts last year
      Tyler Ennis .........$3,250,000.........37
      Carl Soderberg ..$4,000,000........35
      Derick Brassard..$3,400,000........32
I think Brassard, would be the best choice of all even if we needed to over pay for a year or two.
If cozens progresses and is ready at the end of the year, he could be moved to a playoff team for pick.
So not only would he cost nothing, we would get an asset in return.

I don't even think Brass would be that much. Hes on a very cheap contract rn (1.2M) and a I cant see him more than doubling his contract atm. max for a 1 year 2.5M imo
