That Buffalo trade is hard to look at. As a Canadiens fan I can tell you that there is no chance that you will get Suzuki for Letang (and that was one of the more reasonable trades).

nashville and chicago are the only two teams I could see accepting those offers, and even then they're 50/50

I think it's safe to remove Nashville from that list.

I think the Habs keep Alzner and Suzuki over Letang, an overaged player with not much kore to give. You want to rebuild. Trade Crosby for Suzuki one for one...

Horrible for the Devils. We'll keep Schneider. Find your camp dump elsewhere!

I dont know, its essentially 2 full seasons of Malkin for a over paid center in Turris, Tolvanen hasnt looked like the prospect he was supposed to be, what would be a late 1st and Fabbro who is gonna be a legit top 4 dman but not elite.

For a center who probably takes Nashville to the playoffs

Aaaand you went too far.

Crosby might be older but he's still, and will continue to be for some time yet, a no doubt top 3 player in the NHL.

The Preds are already a playoff team. Mortgaging a big part of their future, and devoting close to $30M of their cap space on centers probably isn't wise.

Buffalo trade is really the only one on here that's horrific value wise. Montreal and Carolina probably decline but I don't think the value is crazy. As wild as the Crosby trade is I think both sides actually say yes, Crosby with Mackinnon would be insane. Rust is also worth a first plus

They were a borderline one this year and were offensively lacking with a disappointing season from Johansen. I just think Poile is a gambler and giving up Fabbro and a late first for a legit cup run for 2 seasons is something he would do while having his key players in Ellis, Josi, Duchene and Johansen locked up

Thank you to all for the comments and insights. The acgm was only to illustrate what a real start over rebuild from a pens perspective would look like. Getting young players / picks and getting rid of ALL of the old guard and starting fresh. Weaponizing cap space too.

Also everyone tends to overvalue young players and pics because of potential,... and I get it.
Pens will be cup contenders as long as Crosby Malkin Genz are elite.... 3-5 yrs.
