minor tweaks

Created by: fluff118
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 22, 2020
Published: Jul. 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trades:

Strome = 2020 2nd + Sorenson
Howden = 2021 3rd

Lemieux <= Nichushkin (this one is close: I like Nichushkin and think he's the better player, but Lemieux is a Denver native and 1 year younger)
Andersson + 2x 3rds(with condition) = Kamenev + Jost

Reasonable Negotiations:
1) Downgrade the 3rd coming back from SJS to a 4th
2) Remove 1 of the 2 conditions from the COL trade

Team Projection:
If the team cannot find any trade candidates without paying to get rid of contracts (Staal/Hank), or if they decide against having a joint retirement ceremony, then they will be bought out together to make room for the new generation.

Kamenev and Jost are both stop gaps and will compete for spots next year (2021-2022) with Barron and any other prospects.

Sorenson is a stop gap exclusively, and Pajuniemi will compete for a spot against training camp invites.

Smiths contract expires at the end of the year, and when he walks in FA (or miraculously gets dealt for a 5th or 6th at the TDL), one of DeAngelo/Trouba(can be swapped below) goes to the left. Pairs would be:
Lindgren/Fox
Trouba/Lundkvist
Miller/DeAngelo

Jost > Andersson
Nuke > Lemieux

That is why I have 2 3rds attached to Andersson for Jost
And I admitted that Nuke>Lemieux, but the gap isn't so wide that something can't be worked out. From a pure value point of view, I think it is extremely close. What is a reasonable counter?

The picks were only conditional plus you got Kamenev ontop of the fact i believe Jost>Andersson and Nuke>Lemieux.

Kamenev is practically a throw in.

Including a 5th or 6th takes care of that disparity easily.

Half of the COL ACGM's either throw him in a random trade, or don't trade him AND don't re-sign him, or re-sign him and then leave him in the minors.

And I included in the description above that a reasonable negotiation would be to remove some of the conditions (which were that they would be UPGRADED on condition, not that they were conditional to be included at all...)

Not a fan of trading Nichushkin at all and I dont like Andersson very much. I would do Jost + Kamenev for 2nd+3rd+4th though

I understand not wanting to trade Nichushkin. If I was you, I wouldn't want to either; he's a fancy stats wet dream at an affordable price that can play all situations and easily plug holes up and down the lineup. I'm a huge fan of his.

I think the value is pretty much there, but declining on account of team needs/desires/preference, totally reasonable.

Happy to hear it. I think these Strome trades can get a bit crazy, but the valuation here is just about spot on imo.

I'm actually surprised you feel that way about SJ deal.

You think the difference between SJS 2 and TBL 1 is not negated by Sorenson?

Kamenev is probably worth like a 4th at this stage. But more likely he'll get traded in a prospect swap. His value isn't nothing though.

Yeah from a Colorado perspective it would take a significant overpay to get us to give up Nichuskin. The guy is on a line right now with Landeskog - Kadri - Nichuskin that has the makings of an elite shutdown line in the playoffs. We're not trading him.

The reason why Jost is available is because we have a surplus of bottom 6 forwards, but that doesn't mean that we want to downgrade roster players for the sake of it. Colorado is a contender after all.

So you borrowed the earlier trade of:

Jost for Lias + 3rd + 3rd* (upgrades to a 2nd if Jost gets 35 points)

... which is fine...

.... But adding to that condition with Nichuskin also needing to hit 30 points, while including Kamenev + Nichuskin for Lemieux... makes the trade a big no from Colorado.

Doesn't make sense for colorado who are in win now mode to downgrade a couple of their players to get mid round picks. Colorado declines

Not really remotely close. Let's say the Tampa pick is idk 26th? The cost of jumping from 34 to 26 is....pick 33 lol

https://bluebulletreport.com/2019/06/05/2018-19-draft-model-update-part-iii-blue-bullet-draft-pick-value-chart/

Sorensen is a winger who was below replacement level this season, there's really no place for him in the lineup.

Fair enough, and useful tool...however, realistically what do you think the org will settle for (assuming no team gives up a late 1st (i.e. Min with Pitts or SJ with TBLs), and assuming the Org wants Strome gone as bad as you do (which they likely don't but we'll know in a few months), what would be a fair settling point? It's kind of a "can't have your cake and eat it too" situation here...

What I actually did was borrowed from that earlier trade, and added Kamenev to it, which I thought was approximately reasonable. (clearly noted above)

I went with Lemieux for Nichushkin straight up, admitting that it was close, and that extraneous factors could be considered when discussing the trade. I also specifically noted that the additional condition for Nichushkin could be removed during negotiations. (clearly noted above)

Entirely reasonable things that I did there, that can be discussed and negotiated on, as just because one fan agreed with a trade in another thread doesn't mean that it is cemented and the only fair/reasonable trade available.

a late 1st or multiple 2nds or a 2nd and very good prospect or a replacement 3C and picks.

COL declines. Nichushkin is by far and away the best player in the deal particularly defensively. The Jost is awful but we will trade for him and make him our 3C crowd, gotta love that. But hey we will throw in 2 3rd picks and you thrown in another guy and that will be fair. Yeah COL laughs and hangs up.

Yeah you didn't do anything unreasonable. Fairly sensible moves to make.

But as every Avs fan has noted the trade makes no sense hockey wise, and the value is off as well. Nichuskin and Lemieux really aren't close at all; because one is an elite defensive player with amazing analytics, and the other one is just a run-of-the-mill bottom 6er/4th liner that you can find in free agency without much difficulty.
