BOS-TOR trades aren't happening. Neither team wants to help each other and Bruins are definitely not giving the Leafs what they need the most: A top4 defensive RD.

So forget about this trade so no DeMelo either. Keep Lindholm, release Nordstrom. A 4Y deal brings DeBrusk to free agency and double that AAV for Grzelcyk. Good deals for Bjork, Kuhlman, Chara.

Youre getting a upgrade on Krug at a cheaper contract for a very good number 4 / solid number 3 D and a very decent prospect but hasnt made an nhl impact yet. Not to mention a solid prospect also going the bruins way as well

The best part is how you managed to sneak Studnicka in the trade. The Bruins are getting completely ripped off in this deal.

cheaper contract for 2 years while sacrificing 10+ years of potentially an elite center and another 10 years of a dominant shutdown right d lol. again rodzik, this isnt happening.

Nordstrom is not coming back. Studnicka and Carlo are the future of the Bruins.

Or, just sign krug and keep all your assets? Seems pretty simple. No matter how many times you say, “but Carlo is a good number four,” this trade won’t make sense.

Also debrusk isn’t signing for four years, because no GM ever signs an entry level guy to a deal that takes him directly to UFA without buying out any UFA years. It’s not a thing.

Grzelcyk gets more.

It feels like im in the minority here, but are we calling Gryz a 5 million dollar player? I mean i like his game, and obviously he hasnt been given many PP opportunities, but 15mil over 3 years is just too steep for me. I dont see it at 2.5 obviously, but i cant see it at 5 either. I agree on everything else though, the TOR trade is unrealistic, which makes the DeMelo deal not necessary.

All these people saying Rielly isn't worth Carlo are crazy... He got over 70 pts a season ago and was fourth in Norris trophy voting. The leafs would like a solid RHD but it's not something Dubas is willing to pay a lot for. If we're considering the UFA market they're quite good at attracting players (signing bonuses and track history). A UFA or Muzzin switched to the right is an easy fix, or rolling the lines with Dermott/Holl/Lehtonen on the right. Studnicka is very good but not needed when we have Robertson/Abbruzese etc + the main 4 up front and Hyman/Mikheyev.

Rielly doesn't go over without 2 firsts (considering Boston is a good team, these are close to 2nds in value) + more , or a very good roster player + good pick. And Rielly has a NTC and wanted to be Captain.

Studnika is projected to be a 3C maybe a 2C at best not an elite #1C LMFAO. Boston blinders at its finest. And Carlo isn’t a “dominant shut down D looool”. He’s very good, but he’s far from one of the best at his role.

right now, studnicka projects to replace bergeron/krejci. So not really understanding where you are getting "3c" projection... I would rather have brandon carlo at 4 rd than morgan rielly at 1 left d. I actually think Krug > Rielly. but hey what do i know i just have my boston blinders on.

People project him as a #2C at best lol. Definitely not a Bergeron level player. He’s a first ballot hall of famer.

Middle-six but more of 2C and who knows what happens then, he could become a 1C. The point is that he will replace Bergeron/Krejci so he has more value for us than his market value.

" far from one of the best at his role " How many shutdown D (all defense) are there in the league? Not that many anyways and most of them are probably 3rd pair (stay-at-home) D so I would say he is among the best. Trying to not be biased, how many players and who would you have in front of him?

Pretty confident he'll would be a great top4 D, we've seen him there in the past years when one of 33/73/47/25 were injured and not saying he would be a regular on the top pair but he could. Just need to get that opportunity. On a long-term deal, if I'm Grzelcyk, I'm not taking less than $4,5M, worst-case $4,25M. Maybe not $5M right now but close imo.

On the other hand, Bruins can try to use that (limited role) to their advantage during negotiations.

okay, never said he was bergeron. But he could easily be a 70 point center in the nhl with a solid 2 way ability. Just wait. youll see. youve got me on twitter. You know who morgan rielly actually reminds me of? Mike Green.

70 points is very optimistic. Could it happen? Sure. But I wouldn’t bank on it. I think 50-60 is much more likely. And prime mike green was an absolute force so that isn’t much of an insult. Rielly isn’t even close to as good as prime mike green.

I mean there still are a handful of excellent defensive D’s. You’re right Carlo is probably up there in a sense of “only Defence”. But when you widen it to two way d’s as well, that’s when he slides way down

Mike green has 4 years above 40 points... 3 of them were at his age 22, 23, and 24 seasons.

based on what? there are a handful of players in the league that are better night in and night out defensively than Carlo. and im sorry but as a defender i value defense way higher than being a pp qb or generating secondary assists.

There are a lot of D’s better in their own zone like Petro, Parayko, Hedman, Josi, McAvoy, Slavin, hedman, etc... and I’m just naming the big names. Guys like Muzzin, Petry, Dumo, Brodin, etc are better in their own zone too. Carlo is a good top 4 D. There’s no knock at that. But you can’t sit here and say he’s one of the “best defenders” in the league.

He also had back to pack 70 points years including a 30 goal campaign. No question he was elite.
