Why would you want to make millions running an NHL team?

Wouldn’t it be something unreal if charelli ended up getting the job and pulls off signing hall to an extension.

If Arizona ownership didn't want him to take the job, they shouldn't have granted permission to talk to him about it. It's their own fault.

If the coyotes dont grant him the permission to talk then i still think we end up in the same situation Chayka just doesnt want to run an NHL team anymore nothing can stop that

Quoting: Friedman
Chayka is laying low, uninvolved in team business, not returning messages sent by anyone from agents to annoying reporters. He hasn’t attended practices, and sources indicate his office has been cleaned out. President and CEO Xavier Gutierrez, assistant GM Steve Sullivan and Alex Meruelo Jr., the owner’s son — listed as Strategic Advisor, Business and Hockey Operations — are handling much of the team’s business.

I don't think that's true at all. From reports, it sounds like this new position is a huge step up for him (reported as not a "lateral move"). I'm sure ownership thought they were doing right by him, but expected him to turn down the position. When they realized that he's actually interested in this job, it was too late to backtrack. Instead of congratulating him and wishing him well, they have the current fiasco.

Chayka is under contract and recently signed an extension. He got a better offer and thought he had the blessing of ownership to take the new position. As it turns out, they pulled an Entourage and offered him Medillin in bad faith while he was still contracted to work on Aquaman.

Guess it speaks how highly Meruello thinks of Chayka but idk the whole situation is a mess and only way it ends is Chayka and the Coyotes parting ways

Honestly, Chayka is one of the worst GMs in the game. He can evaluate players kinda ok and he makes decent draft day trades, but he literally is the single worst GM in the NHL when it comes to developing players. Just look at all the succes players are having away from AZ. AZ is far better off without him.

Chayka is kind of like Bergevin, he makes good trades but fails to get anything out of the draft. The heavy lifting should be done at the draft, and finishing touches via trade

How much of that is on the GM though? The scouts watch the players far more than the GM. I get that the GM is ultimately in charge, but drafts are won outside the 1st round, frankly most GM's won't have seen very much of 5th and 6th rounders, the scouts need to earn their pay

Am I wrong in thinking that he's not necessarily leaving the NHL? Friedman just said he wasn't pursuing a "lateral move." CHI is looking for a President (potentially Hockey Ops), and that would be a positional upgrade from GM.

The Coyotes writer Craig Morgan came out after and said "it was not an opportunity with another team that Chayka was exploring, but another professional opportunity"

Strome was a Maloney draft pick had a good year for Chicago but fell off a bit and is now on the trade block , Duclair another Maloney player was bad in Chicago and bad in Columbus , Domi had a great season last season but fell off a bit this past season , Murphy Maloney pick has been ok nothing much else , Joseph still in AHL , Galchenyuk sucked in pittsburgh , DeAngelo had a great season this year still have to see if its a one year thing or he gains consistency , when it comes to developing their own players , Dvorak just had his best season in the NHL has a great two way game and would have scored 20 goals , Garland a very nice goal scorer and underrated piece to the team , Chychrun has developed into a great top 4 dman that score as well , Keller still has room to grow but has been a solid top 6 forward , Hayton , Soderstrom , Maccelli , Prosvetov , and jenik all developed well very well this season and Hayton was good in his limited role and was surprisingly very good defensivly as a 19 year old but sure he sucks at developing

Honestly charelli isn’t bad a contract negotiations he totally blew the lucic one but every other deal he’s signed has actually worked out fairly well. Klefbom is a steak. Leon at 8.5 long term is excellent

True. He's gotta slip though because Meruelo will be breathing down his neck to get Hall signed long-term. If that org is to survive they need a marquee player and Kessel just ain't it. Chiarelli was the one who traded him btw so he will have to beg.
