And what is being packaged with Russell to give Detroit any reason to make this deal?

Do understand russell is a decent defender. Lol that’s unbelievable very late pick for nhl capable body and still think get more? Oilers aren’t giving russell away that easy it’s gunna take more Detroit probably not most likely team to be interested but shouldn’t complain about getting nhl caliber player for nothing.

Oilers should probably just keep him rather than trade him for a pick with basically no value.

That argument works if he is on a better contract, and not being traded away from the team so that you could be cap compliant. That trade might work if his contract was less than half of what it is, but its $4 million per, and the best defence is that he is 'capable.'

Lol it’s 4 mill per what? It’s one year remaining also for owners it’s a huge bargain because he’s only owed 1.5 which is less than half the cap hit soooo ya oilers are in a solid situation to move him for something not piss away.

Most likely will stay with Edmonton because they actually really do like the fact he can play up and down line up also fill in on his off side and is a shot blocking beast.

Ok, so if teams think similarly to the way that I am now, whereby paying a UFA, prospect, trading for someone cheaper/better is preferable (which is pretty reasonable.) How is Edmonton's cap situation looking, with this roster + Russell?

So you think Edmonton should just basically roll out the same exact team next year?

Remove benning and green. Keep russell for his final year call up bouch or insert broberg problem solved.

For the most part yes. Why not sitting second in division doesn’t really mean need to make a big splash.

I would think with 2 of the best players in the league the goal would be championships not just making the playoffs.

Russell has a limited no movement clause, and it’s extremely unlikely that he’s wave it to go to Detroit. I mean, would you?

The progress the team has made has been done threw internal development continue doing that considering the pieces are in place to do so. If you believe what holland has said it’s pretty likely jp will be back too the team can make significant additions without any trades.

He should if he actually wants to get an opportunity to play and extend his career, but it doesn't matter because Detroit has no interest in him unless you're adding a worthwhile future asset

Look to trade benning. He’s too expensive for a press box guy
