He's not exactly a need for the Red Wings with the rebuild I think they need all the picks they can get and not get players that don't exactly help us.

As a fan i'd do a 3rd. I think we can acquire more picks for this draft by leveraging cap. But because he doesn't really meet our needs, id drop a round to get appropriate value.

Really doesn’t matter which of the 30 teams the pick comes from

Interesting. Obviously I’d prefer lower so I’d like to agree with you. It’s tough determining the value because both players are in the prove it stage of their career. The flat cap makes it really interesting.

Dermotts contract value is com, parable to Holl (2 million)... just that a bottom pairing LD is slightly less valuable than a bottom pairing RD

Dermott won't be above 1 million unless it's a 3+ year deal.

He has no arbitration rights and doesn't put up points. Your contract is insane for him.

Similar to the Johnsson trade, doesn’t matter which of the 30 teams is involved in this trade

There are only about 8 teams that can afford to take on a cap hit for draft picks. There are close to 20 teams looking to dump some cap and get anything back in return. Teams with cap space are going to have lots of options out there and will not be giving up higher end draft picks for bottom half roster players. Compound that with Johnsson coming off a terrible season (only 3 even strength goals scored in over 1/2 a season while playing with talented line mates) and now coming off a serious leg injury, and you are going to hear the same thing from all 30 teams with these expectations. "Not interested".

Dermott goes about $1.5M on a one or two-year "show me" deal: he has a smart game with some upside but he's been sheltered. I'd imagine Mikheyev is probably 2.5M on a similar term deal, especially if he comes back on fire as advertised, it may slide higher, soupman could sign for as low as 2 or as high as 3. I like the moves overall, and considering the 2nd is from Washington it's basically a 3rd anyhow, but these guys have a point that cap-dumps (this is halfway one, johnsson can play but he's a 3rd line guy ideally) are gonna be chintzy on the return for the next 2 or 3 seasons.

edit: Also I wouldn't forget about Barabanov, he could be a neat bottom 6 option (energy on the forecheck, great skating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJUX2Vy0jbE)
