Contending in the Atlantic Division

Created by: Rooster
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 26, 2020
Published: Jul. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Entering the final phase of the rebuild and transitioning to contending for a playoff spot, and ideally fighting to win the Atlantic Division. I see this happening in two seasons. Here are some moves I would love to see the Sens make to solidify the team going forward. Leadership team is: Brady Tkachuk "C", Thomas Chabot "A", Connor Brown "A".

That's an absolute nightmare down the middle mate, gotta give some of those players a chance to develop! All of your centermen have a combined 59 games played. Excluding Chlapik, a combine 3 GP. Same thing with the RD. Gotta give them some more sheltered minutes.

No way would I do that deal for Sergachev. The Sens have great depth on the left side, and if they're going to add a big piece on the blueline, they shouldn't be targeting another OFD. They need a guy who can play big defensive minutes, to ease the strain on Chabot.

Why would Zaitsev waive his NTC?

If you want this team to contend, you’d have to convince all the other teams in the Atlantic division to go into full and total rebuild mode. This team has almost no experience

Neither did the ‘97 Sens. But they went on a decade long run of contention. This is the next generation of Alfie, Redden, Spezza, Phillips, Fisher, etc. And while they might not take the Cup in the next couple of years, they are well on their way to being a powerhouse. I’m sure the GM will add some vets via trades and UFAs as the team gains experience and is in contention.

No to Lehner, and no to giving Brady the C.

No problem with the Sergachev trade, but I would rather get Cirelli
