Something different keeping Domi Moving Danault

Created by: Blazingbat11
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2020
Published: Jul. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Never gonna happen, just trying something different. If Habs decide they want to keep Domi, Suzuki, and KK at Center and move Danault for maximum value.

The Jets get a legit two way 2nd line Center signed long term. Habs get a top LD prospect + a conditional 1st/2nd. Lowry will assume Danault's defensive responsibilities.

Mete for Virtanen swap.

Sign Gustafsson as LD just in case, and have some healthy competition between Romanov and Heinola, and if both succeed bump Gustafsson as a depth Dman, no biggie.

Fingers crossed I can add Lafreniere to the lineup!!!

That looks like a good trade for Winnipeg. Heinola is highly rated, but they have Morrissey as a permanent fixture at LHD and Samberg and Chisholm in the pipeline as well as Heinola. If Samberg can become a top 4 D then Heinola is a bit more expendable, especially if they can get a legit 2C.

Bad take, Heinola is probably next to untouchable. He would have to be returning a Mark Stone caliber plauer and thats not Danault.

He isnt that good of a prospect. Projects to maybe be a top 4 guy some day but not good enough for Danault or Stone.

This is an easy no from MTL. Danault is worth a lot, especially if he is locked up at 6 million a year moving forward.

Think of it this way, he had better defensive numbers then the 3 guys nominated for the Selke and out scored all of them in 5 on 5 points. The offer would have to be a big one to get Danault.out of MTL

Danault is a strong middle six C but i dont see him returning Heinola and a 2nd. More like Samberg and a 2nd.

I'm a Jets fan and I'd do this trade without a second thought, this is good for the Jets and is a really good return for the Habs as well, Heinola is a very good prospect.

Don't see Danault leaving the Habs though, I'm sure he'll be signing a long term deal with them.

He is one of the top 5 defensive centers in the league and still puts up 50 points with no PP time. Like I said he out scored all the Selke finalists in 5 on 5 play this year but somehow you're telling me he is only worth a B prospect and a 2nd.

Winnipeg gave up a 1st and Brendan Lemieux for 2 months and a playoff run for Kevin Hayes. Danault is better then Hayes and would be signed for 6 years at a cheaper cap hit.

Danult at 6×6 in a trade to Winnipeg would mean thier 1st and Heinola

Heinola is definitely an A prospect. Danault has reached 50 only once in 5 seasons.

Completely agree with you. Just trying something different, but let me play devils advocate.
Here’s the thing, looking long term, you realistically want Suzuki and KK becoming you’re 2 top C, you don’t want either developing into a #3 C. But if the Habs commit to Danault long term, then you basically guarantee that one of Zukes or KK will bust, just by simply not being able to properly fit on the roster. So moving forward you make room for both kids, and keep one back up (Domi or Danault), Danault gets you the most value and Domi as a back up top 6 C you can slot on the 3rd pair is realistic. Zero chance Danault will slide to the 3rd line with Coach CJ... trading Danault will be more beneficial in the long run! Lol

The Virtanen trade is pretty reasonable. How much do you think Mete gets to resign?

Would have reached it this year and has shown he is a late bloomer after improving every season since in MTL. Point is you dont get one the top 5 best defensive centers, who is on a cheap deal, and has shown that the best is still come for that package. Dont think its a huge difference or anything but i would expecting the 2nd to be a 1st.

I actually think Danault would be a great long term 3C but you're right that if they got a good pricre for him they should move him if KK and Suzuki have surpassed him. I would want them to sign him first though and then trade him year 2 of a 6 year deal. Its prime value for him to be moved to a team desperate for a 2C after the cap has increased and teams start looking to spend more.

Saying Danault is better than Hayes is a personal opinion. Hayes has been incredibly good in Philly this year as a 2-way center.

I view Heinola on a similar level to Romanov, Brannstrom, etc. And Brannstrom returned a signed Stone. I think Heinola can do the same with Danault by himself.

Danualt was literally Selke level and has been for two seasons now. Hayes isnt on that level and you can go anywhere from experts to underlying analytics to prove it. Difference is that Stone wanted out of Ottawa and Ottawa knew he wasnt resigning with them, so it was either trade him or lose him for nothing. MTL isnt in that position of weakness, they would be trading from a position of strength, especially if he Danulat was locked in long term at a cap hit as cheap as 6 million

Would agree with this statement. I think people Underestimate heinola. He’s definitely an A prospect. I do think he’s on the level on brannstrom and Romanov. Honestly, he might’ve even pushed himself above them with his solid outing when he started in the NHL.

I like this deal for both teams if I’m being honest, doubt Danault has any interest in signing long term anywhere besides Montreal.

Danault is one of the most underrated centers in the game. Elite two way 5v5 player. WPG get a steal here.
