That's some pretty wishful thinking tears of joy

In this situation, Carey Price would be 34 before he even plays a game with Seattle. He'll also still have 5 years remaining on his contract. If league sources are correct, and we can most likely expect a flat cap over the next couple of years due to Covid, Ron Francis would immediately get fired for spending roughly 12.8% of his cap space on a 34 year old goaltender.

The fact that you're adding a 3rd and the UFA rights to Joel Armia (who is a dime a dozen 3rd liner that Seattle could get in free agency anyway) does absolutely nothing to convince Seattle to take that contract.

Actually it is not wishful thinking, It all would depend on Price. Seattle has already said they would love to get Price and be in the same situation as Vegas was when they took Fleury. BTW you cannot trade UFA rights, they are FA and can sign anywhere.

They are gonna have a hard time trying to reach the salary cap floor anyways. No matter how Price ages, he's still a huge star, draws big money and put asses in seats. When Vegas picked Fleury, there were other good goalies available but they chose to select a big name to kickstart their franchise.

OK, team listed for trade is VGK.

Anyway, Price isn't from Seatle, either.

You wouldnt have to pay Seattle to take him, if he agreed to waive they would likely welcome him. It would depend more on Primeau, if he shows he can be a good NHL starter then MTL will look to move him or Price

You can't trade with Seattle on CapFriendly yet. He also played junior in Tri-Cities which is quite close and Seattle isn't that far away from his native town in BC

The compensation isn't that big. PIT also payed Vegas to take Fleury even if it was sure that they were gonna take him.

Age/contract/ caphit. That's pretty similar to MA Fleury going to Vegas.

The difference is that PIT was in danger off loosing Murray and that's why they paid Vegas to take Fleury instead.

The situation in Montreal is totally different. You could debate if Price started his decline like Fleury did back then (stay in your net!!), but one thing is sure : MTL doesn’t have another goalie ready to take the No 1 spot yet. It would be suicide to let him go.

Dallas accept. We need a playmaker like Drouin badly.

Fleury's cap hit at the time was $5.75 mil. He was also 32, and had 2 years left on the contract. He was extended last year, after putting up some big numbers, and while that may turn out to be a mistake, he'll also still only be 37 when the contract is over.

Edit: Pittsburgh also gave up a 2nd to get Vegas to take Fleury.

I think if the Canadiens asked Price to waive his NMC and he accepts, than the Kraken would love to have him, and they would take him for a 2nd or 3rd. This stuff about people not wanting him is overblown: They'd love to have him.

MTL isn’t trading Price even if you think they need to.
