Trades
1.
COL
  1. Cizikas, Casey
Additional Details:
An excellent 4C, albeit an expensive one who would be hard for NYI to move in a flat cap league.
NYI
  1. 2020 4th round pick (COL)
2.
COL
  1. Pilut, Lawrence [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Pilut is unhappy with Buffalo so might be available in a prospect swap. He is solid defensively and also excels at passing and transitions which would make him a good fit in Colorado's transition-centric system.
BUF
  1. Kamenev, Vladislav [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Kamenev needs a new opportunity where he can get regular NHL minutes. Buffalo could be a good landing spot for him.
3.
COL
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (NYI)
NJD
  1. Cole, Ian
Additional Details:
NJ fans will probably say no to this, but Cole could be an important stabilising presence on a young team. The fact that he only has 1 year left also dove-tails perfectly with Bahl and Ty Smith's development timeline.
4.
COL
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (CGY)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CGY)

@fckmattcooke I think you might enjoy this one, as some of the moves were inspired by your AGM's. In putting this together I could very much see the thought process behind some of the moves you made. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on this roster. smile

Ian Cole for a second is not going to pass but a deal is there to be made. A big bodied left D man would benefit us. You are looking at a 3rd or 2 4ths.

      Isles laugh their asses off.

You brutally overvalue Zadorov and Jost.

Sabres trade is wash. Both will be in KHL next season.

If the 3rd was an early 2020 3rd it might be ok. But you don't have that pick. In light of that, a reasonably late 2nd a year later seems appropriate. For what it's worth Winnipeg fans often suggest Cole for a 2nd in their AGM's.

Don't think hall would settle for 3 years, 8.5. Not that I think he's worth more than that.

What do you think Cizikas' value is? I know this is probably an underpayment, but moving a 4C making $3.35m isn't easy, and NYI are really pressed for capspace.

I've proposed Zadorov for a 2nd + 3rd to several fanbases and there are plenty who would accept, including a Calgary fan in my previous AGM. NJ fans have also accepted 2021 2nd + 3rd for Zadorov; as has some LAK fans. It seems like pretty reasonable value.

Jost is a 22 year old defensively reliable 3LW/3C with higher offensive potential who is going to be really cheap to resign; it's not unreasonable to expect that he can bring back a return like that in a flat cap league.

We pass. That pick gets us Olli Maata who is a better player. A deal is there for the right price.

Cizikas is more of a 3C than a 4C. Elite defensively and he drives play offensively as well.

According to Elliott Friedman Arizona are offering him 5 years x $7.25m. In light of that I think he'd consider an offer like this from a top contender.

I don’t even know tbh lol . He’s an important part for the isles, especially with the system they play. He’s tasked with shutting down opposing teams top lines, he’s one of those players it just pays to keep him although he only has 1 year left

Yeah I read on nhl trade rumors last friday they called it an insulting offer, given the state of the cap I don't agree with that. I just think given his age he will want 5 years + but who knows for a shot at a cup he may go for it.

More value for NYI than his actual market value; there are some players like him.

And you’re gonna need that Hall $ to sign Makar the next season.

Cizikas is our 2nd most important forward. There are so many guys who would be moved before him. Not a chance Isles consider it

I like the looks of this!

As we've talked about Hall at 3x~8.5 makes a lot of sense. Every report says he wants to go for the cup, and then can sign another big deal once the cap raises. The Zadorov comments are interesting but he's a polarizing player, some love him, some are meh on him.

The Cizikas comments are interesting, it's tough to gauge his value in a trade because as is said he's such an important player to the Islanders. He could easily just re-sign with them after the season in UFA though if he still wants to play in Long Island, they just have such a tough cap situation, are there aren't many teams that can take on money.

I really like getting value for Cole instead of just letting him walk. Being competitive while also selling on UFA's who you have internal replacements for is going to be a huge part of extending the contending window.

I'd still rather keep Jost though wink but I'm a fan so I'm definitely biased. Looks good to me!

Pilut has an NHL out clause in his KHL deal. He won’t come back to Buffalo, but I bet he’ll play somewhere else. So he still has value as a trade chip. Personally I would rather have Tyson Jost for him.

Pilut is a decent Dman to take a flyer on, but Sakic certainly won't trade Jost for him. Maybe Avs would consider it if you include a 2nd round pick (i.e Pilut + 2nd for Jost).

You're probably right. He's among the top 4-5 goalies which means that he'll likely be gone by the end of the 3rd round judging by how many goalies typically get taken by then each year:

Goalie picks in the 1st 3 rounds by year (in brackets amount in each of round 1/2/3):
      2019: 9 (1, 3, 5)
      2018: 6 (0, 2, 4)
      2017: 8 (1, 1, 6)
      2016: 8 (0, 4, 4)
      2015: 8 (1, 1, 6)

That said, the pick was more of a placeholder for a goalie pick in general. Avs aren't desperate for a goalie prospect since we have Annunen and Werner in the pipeline, but with an extra 3rd it makes sense to use it on a goalie as that's a good spot in the draft to pick one. Assuming that there's a good one still on the board of course.

No one is paying that much for Jost no matter how much you try to justify it. Hes a bust end of story

He's not a bust, that's just the opinion of ill-informed fans who hardly ever watch him. Allow me to enlighten you with some analytics:

First of all, Jost is a net positive player at 5v5 as shown in the graph below. He's also over 50% in both Corsi and Fenwick, also showing that he's a positive possession player.

      He's fantastic at drawing penalties:

His zone starts are mostly defensive, which contributes to his limited offensive output. He's excellent defensively though, so has a lot of value in a bottom 6 role.

To elaborate on that, here are his isolated impact stats at 5v5. He's a bit of a non-factor offensively, but dare I say that he's elite defensively, with -14% xGA/60. For reference Bergeron is at -16% xGA. That means that with Jost on the ice the team gives up 14% less chances than the league average. Anything in double digits is considered very good if not elite.

Lastly, though the sample size is small he has done very well on the PK for us this season, posting a team-best -17% xGA/60 on the PK. Without him on the PK the team conceded 9% more chances than the league average, which is 26% worse than if Jost is on the ice.

I could also bring up his zone exits and forechecking stats which are also very good. He's very responsible with the puck too, with a takeaways:giveaway ratio of 71:31.

So overall, Jost is a 22 year old 3rd liner who is bordering on elite defensively and who is reliable with and without the puck, and also won't hurt your team with penalties but rather actually wins plenty of penalties.

The reason why the term "bust" gets thrown around is because his offense hasn't translated (yet), but he absolutely has a role on an NHL team as a 3rd liner (at the very least). And what do you think a 22 year old 3rd liner with elite defense should cost via trade, considering that he's cost-controlled and likely to be pretty cheap to resign (mostly due to his offense not translating yet)?

It's actually not uncommon for good checking line forward to get traded for something around a 2nd + 3rd, and I'd say that that's the very least Sakic should be looking for if Jost gets moved, since young, cost-controlled and defensively reliable forwards have plenty of value in a flat cap league.
