Calgary wont trade their only center for a winger. and I dont think trading Reinhart is in our best interest. Montour for Virt is fine 1v1 even better for Van but ill take it due to the glut of RHD we have, so im not taking sutter too. and thats probably good value for Tuch but they would deny it.

This was Monahan, worst year since his rookie season point wise, he isn’t worth arguably the best prospect that’s affiliated with an NHL team.
It would probably take 8th overall++

I think Flames will just keep him then, #8 isn't returning a 1C so if you arent willing to move Cozens then there is nothing to discuss

True, but Beagle can only give a 5 team no-trade list. I'd assume he'd go with Ottawa, Detroit, Edmonton, Winnipeg, New Jersey so you still might be able to trade him to Buffalo

Maybe, but I don’t think the Sabres should take on cap dumps and bad players.

Thats my stance if I'm Treliving. If the Sabres call and ask about Monahan hes not available for anything less than Cozens +

They can't have their cake and eat it too, and the Flames need a legit shot at replacing Monahan in short order, or why move him? Might as well just keep him.

You can still put Lindholm, Backlund, and Ryan as your top three centers.

Yes, but Lindholm is also our top line RW. Honestly, the Flames and Sabres are not good trade partners when it comes to trading forwards. The only way it works is if one of them is going to rebuild or retool and I really don't see any way Treliving would trade the Sabres our #1C without getting your guys' #1C prospect back in return.

Agreed. I think the Sabres should consider moving Cozens for a proven center like Monahan. They may regret in the long run if Cozens becomes a superstar but he also may become just an average middle six center. If they were to move him there would be little else included mid round pick, B prospect or Pilut. So unless Calgary is committed to a rebuild they probably dont do this.

Given Cozens stature, I don't think they'd have to add to much to him for Monahan.

But you're right, the Flames don't do this unless they do a major retool or rebuild. If that were the case Treliving should be asking what the Sabres are willing to part with for Monahan, Hanifin and the Flames taking Okposo as well.
