Why do we need Helm? While I don’t think Johansson will ever be a good starting goalie he still is a young and had a great season in the AHL.

Tampa couldn't do that as Johnson would exercise his full NTC.

He's good depth and Johansson won't ever be anything in Buffalo. It's a great deal.

Helm was one of the best PKers in the league last year on one of the worst teams in league history. Sabres PK sank them. He also usually has really good zone entry stats

I feel like they should just let Asplund, Rustolainen be the 4th line LW.

Ruotsalainen is not a 4th liner, why would you put him there. He's an undersized speedy winger who has never played the North American game. That would be a great way to destroy his NHL career. He needs to go to the A anyway

There probably won’t be an AHL season. Pipe dream
But a Rustolainen-Larsson-Okposo 4th line would be Really good.

Ruotsalainen will be eaten alive. The NHL is sending guys to work on the AHL return to play

Going from a Cup contender to a team that is way down the standings. Going from a no income tax state to NY. Going from a warm year round environment to where snow drifts can be over his head. Moving away from "home" after 7 years.

say more than probably

If there’s no fans there won’t be an AHL season. Just like minor league baseball.

Buffalos taxes really, suprisingly, wont affect him that bad, and Buffalo has a lower cost of living, so money wouldnt be a huge factor (-$381,370 annually compared to Tampa: https://www.capfriendly.com/income-tax-calculator/tyler-johnson)

They have the advantage of being able to start in Nov, Dec, or Jan

Now multiply that by 4 years left. That's 1.525M less. Glad you're not my accountant. And the cost of living won't be much lower as Florida gives huge property and car tax breaks to permanent residents--those aren't in that calculation chart. Not to mention property is considered retirement assets so wouldn't have to split it with his wife when he gets caught cheating again like he did on KImmel.

The difference between 16.3 and 14.4. He could make that up by selling his tampa house and buying a comparable one in Buffalo that would cost a 4th or a 5th of one in Tampa

You are probably right about Johansson he very well may be just a backup a career back up. From Detroit's pov Johansson has a few NHL games under his belt and is ready to see more NHL action and that puts him ahead of Detroit's goalie prospects. The way Bernier was playing when the season was cut short he will be Detroit's starter. I would rather see Detroit take a chance with Johansson or some like him instead of giving up a 2nd + for an older goalie that recently lost his job to a younger goalie. You are also right about Helm he is 33 but he is still pretty fast and he is responsible defensively. At half price an in the final year of his contract there isn't a whole lot of risk swapping him for a goalie that will probably never be starter.

I would be fine picking up Helm for veteran leadership, but Johnson is never coming here. We don’t need to trade for Cirelli, just send him an offer sheet for five years at $6 million a year. That is a first and a third round pick in compensation, he’s worth that. We don’t need Corey Perry, and he probably would never sign here anyway. I like Josh Leivo better than him at this point, and he would cost about the same.

That's one way to get divorced. Oh honey, I just decided to take a pay cut and get transferred to Buffalo when I could have blocked the move and made more money while living in a year round warm climate near the Gulf on a more competitive team.

Very easy to spend someone else's 1.5M. And it's just one of the negative factors.

I'd rather see Detroit keep the pick and and go after an UFA goalie on a temporary basis. If you are going to use a pick/multiple picks use it on young goalie Alexandar Georgiev is who I want. Why settle when you are one of a handful of teams that benefited from a flat cap?

Johnson has value. Yzerman is in Detroit. Johnson can either waive for Buffalo or be claimed on waivers by Detroit or Buffalo.

I’d rather go for Killorn vs Johnson in this case. More savvy and consistent. Johnson would just be another small, non- physical player.

I don’t see the Miller trade as all that useful. He did well with Dahlin which certainly adds value to his being in Buffalo

Sounds like he already has. And if he is cheating on his wife sounds like he doesn't really want to be married anyhow.

Ok but this is Helm for Jonas Johansson an RFA goalie and there is no pick involved. You maybe thinking of Marcus Johansson is a center with 1yr left before he becomes aa UFA,
