You’ll need more than Miller for Ghost. He still has untapped potential. He scored 60 points a couple years ago

Yes but Miller hit 40 and has been more consistent the last couple seasons. It's a team need for team need trade, Miller's cap savings even out the extra year on Gostisbehere's contract.

He scored 12 points this year. Miller scored 41 a couple of years ago and was a top 4 D on a Stanley Cup finals team. Both players have regressed since then and Miller has a lower cap number. The value is fair.

I would rather move Montour and get a forward back in the deal too. Sabres can only protect 3 defensemen in the expansion draft, and you don’t deal for Ghost just so he can end up in Seattle.

Think a defenseman ends up there either way, in this scenario they get to choose who. Montour could still end up better than Jokiharju

Based on taxes, he might as well stay in Tampa and take $2m. The small difference isnt worth moving to Buffalo.

The difference is <10% of his pay and they can't afford anywhere near 6M, this is a bad take

Not as bad as thinking he's signing an offer sheet with Buffalo.

1. I think Tampa would find a way to match that
2. Buffalo would have to give up more to get that pick back from NYR. Rangers hold all the bargaining power when they know that Buffalo needs that pick in particular.

An extra pick in this year’s draft is more than enough to entice NYR, as hurting Tampa benefits them as well. 2021 3rd is roughly equal to a 2020 4th as is, better to have a pick today than tomorrow. Can’t see Tampa matching anything higher than 5M, no one is doing them any favors. Unprotected 1st + 3rd is a fine return anyway
