This is good, we could get lots back for those guys! I agree on getting Gibson because one I like him, and two his contract is for like 7 more years! Our defence would be elite, and in a few years someone would sadly have to leave. The only thing I don’t know if I like is the Bear trade. I believe we could get more for him, because of his season this year. All in all the big question is, would we be a good team straight out of the gates, or would we have to wait a few years? That would definitely be a fun team to watch, especially with that elite defence!

Definitely would be a work in progress, it would take a few years to complete, but when we did I think we would rule for years!! I spent all my money on a stud defence and a top 5 goalie in the NHL

Nope. We gave you Klefbom, and Nuge with an extension. That’s definitely reasonable!

Big no. Slavin is one of if not the best defenceman in the NHL. Draisaitl would be the starting piece

Start with Draisaitl? I don’t think so. This trade might not do it but don’t get carried away!

Did you seriously just say that? He isn’t the best defence man in the NHL. Klefbom and Nugent-Hopkins is definitely enough! They are both massively underrated!

That would be Carolina's price. Slavin will not come cheaper. Nuge is a 2C, we have loads of those. For one of the best D men in the NHL, it'd need to be Draisaitl.

This is how you get no one to ever take you seriously. No defenseman in the league is worth Draisaitl.

No defenceman in the league is worth the public perception of Draisaitl. But is Slavin worth someone who produces like an 80 point player when taken away from McDavid? I'd say so.

Yeah, maybe Draisaitl would be enough to entertain getting Slavin’s skates

Well, he's been away from McDavid for half of the season, still kept producing, and Slavin isn't worth a ppg player.

Draisaitl outscored McDavid this year whether together or apart.

    While together (5v5)
    Draisaitl: 3.04 P/60
    McDavid: 2.93 P/60

    While apart (5v5)
    Draisaitl: 2.7523 P/60
    McDavid: 2.7473 P/60

Here are some other players you might recognize:

    Aho: 2.42 P/60
    Svechnikov: 2.33 P/60
    Teravainen: 2.22 P/60

Aho was on pace for 80 points. Are you saying Slavin is worth more than Aho?

Yes. Any defender who can be as spectacular as Slavin is, and STILL put up 14 points in 15 playoff games is worth an 80 point producer.

You're also using 1 year stats, those are badly affected by McDavid's injury. You need to use 3 year for a big enough sample size to make a reasonable conclusion

Did you just complain about me using 1 year of stats for Draisaitl and then use 15 games as a basis for Slavin's valuation? tears of joy

    A couple of things:

    - Slavin scored 11 points in that 15 game playoff run, not 14. Still pretty good, 0.73 P/GP
    - if we're going to look at small playoff samples, Draisaitl scored 16 points in 13 games: 1.23 P/GP
    - looking at 3 years data, Aho has averaged 0.94 P/GP which works out to 77 points per 82 games. He posted an average of 71 points per season.
    - also 3 years data, Draisaitl has averaged 1.23 P/GP which works out to 101 points per 82 games. He posted an average of 95 points per season, 24 more than Aho.

Anyhow, nothing you've said has changed my outlook on these players, which is: Draisaitl > Aho > Slavin.

    Who's talking about Aho?

You're also using the point totals of a DFD. Slavin is a DFD out and out, and he still tallied 0.73 PPG. Slavin > Draisaitl. Slavin over 3 years has a better xGF, xGA and even a better GA. He's better value than Draisaitl. People won't look at him because he's a Hurricane though so....

We both were talking about Aho. In my first post on this subject I wrote:

    To which you replied:

And YOU were the one that brought up points by a defenseman, not me. I just pointed out that fallacy of using a 15 game sample size.
