You will need to pay someone to take Maatta's contract. I can see Winnipeg wanting to make a move for Strome, but I doubt it involves them moving a defenseman especially this player.

Maatta has a buyout of ~$600k for the next 2 seasons. Chicago wouldn’t pay someone to take him.

Then they will need to buy him out if Chicago wants him off of their cap. Point is noone is paying to take on his bad contract.

Wrong.

Who is going to pay to add him to their lineup when they can sign any of about 20 UFA's to a lower cap number this offseason that will be better

Could you name a couple of those 20 UFA’s that would make less than Maatta and play better than him?

Anyone looking to acquire Maatta is probably looking for a number 4 LHD.
Just glancing at some of these players stats I'm not convinced many of them are better.

Travis Hamonic is a Right Handed Shot, is also not likely to make less than Maatta.

Dylan Demelo is also a right handed shot, not sure how much he will make, but I can't see it being too much less than Maatta. Not sure if he is much better than Maatta based on stats alone.

Brandon Dillion IS a left handed shot, not sure he makes less than Maatta, but he could be a good option.

Justin Braun is a right handed shot, he is much older than Maatta, and The stats don't say he is better than Maatta.

Radko Gudas is a right handed shot, again older than Maatta, and the stats are about even.

Erik Gus, does not play a similar game to Maatta, and I doubt he makes less than Maatta on his next contract. (He is a Left shot, but plays the right side)

TVR- Right shot, decent stats.

Borowiecki- old and bad.

Most of these guys are right handed shots or don't play a comparable game to maatta. Their stats don't suggest that they are better.

Obviously. I would rather go on something like evolving hockey and get higher end stats like xEVO and war and xGAR than basic possession stats which aren't kind to Maatta either
