Pietrangelo signs with PHI

Description
Now let's be honest, the chances of Alex Pietrangelo ever signing with Philadelphia are slim to none. However, we can all dream, can't we?

This would confirm that Philly would not sign Niskanen after his contract expires at year-end, and the Flyers get that solidified #1 RHD for years to come to help guys like Provorov, Sanheim and Myers continue to develop (not to mention York, Zamula and other prospects coming up in the defensive pipeline).

The BIGGEST concern would be the expansion draft, as JvR being moved here to make space to sign AP, who do the Flyers look to protect on defence? Or do they make a trade with Seattle to protect their players?

The team looks strong as hell but you'd lose Myers to Seattle, unless you pay a few assets to keep him

Yeah I figure Philly would get demolished even in a trade with Seattle in order to keep all 4 of Myers, Sanheim, Provorov and Pietrangelo. One can dream right?

I feel like you guys have a ton of prospects you could give up and you still have all your picks. Im sure theyd take Ratcliffe, O'Brien or Brink

If that were the case, I'd be more than happy! Avoiding guys like Zamula, Farabee, Frost and York would be absolutely okay. Love Brink, but if that's what it takes to keep the band together, I'm all for it.

Is Gostisbehere really only worth a 2nd and 3rd at this point?

Looked good in yesterday's exhibition vs the Pens. Because he was a consistent scratch this year and just had surgery on both knees, I wouldn't be upset as a Flyers fan in this situation, as Pietrangelo would be a major upgrade.

if the flyers do end up signing Pietrangelo, then they would have no choice as to trade Gostisbehere and they won't get full value for him. I can see the Habs giving up 2 draft picks for a LD.

Actually I think the Flyers have a good a chance of any team to sign Petro. They have the cap, and are a good team. Question is more of Philly management, do they want to spend 8.5m on a UFA.
Don't worry about the return for on the Ghost, if it means a upgrade with Petro.

Ghost only based on this injury plagued season, upcoming expansion, solid and stacked blueline is probably a tad of a steal for a late 2nd and a late 3rd, but Philly might make that deal based on those facts and the cap space it creates.

I think looking at the team defensive depth, expansion and the UFA list, that there are a lot of options at RD that don't cost as much as Petro. Cap space is no problem for the flyers, as they only have laughton, sanheim and hart to re-sign next year, with niskanen/raffl coming off. I think Ghost goes in trade and JVR becomes trade bait or expansion choice (with a pick thrown in).

PHI protects Provorov, Sanheim and Myers in expansion and I think next year they go with Provo-Niskanen, Sanheim-Myers as top 4, with a 3rd pairing of Hagg/Zamula/youngster and a vet RD. they can get a RD at lesser term and cost (maybe around 3-4mil for 3-4 years) in Shattenkirk, Big Buff, Barrie, Schultz, Tanev, Braun, Gudas, TVR, Bogosian, Demelo.

In 2 years time, they'll have Giroux, coots and other cap issues, so cant see them spending big and long term on Petro.

I like your logic, and I agree with most of it. My only logic for Pietrangelo is he is a stud, and now with a cup under his belt, he brings so much experience that would help that young blueline flourish. Nisky and Braun have brought that element this year, but I figure when Nisky's contract is over, he won't be resigned. In response, Philly goes after Pietrangelo and sacrifices the Ghost/JVR trades to make that happen.

If Barrie takes 3-4 mil - then omg yeah sign me up. But again, love Piet's game and would love to see him in orange and black!
