I'd much rather have Lehtonen in the starting lineup than Stone who's just not that good an Jo is DONE, resign Spezza instead

Edit: I do like the idea of Sabourin being the extra F tho

Youd think TOR would have learned their lesson already with signing older veterans well out of their prime (eg. Marleau and Spezza)

What lesson? Marleau and Spezza were/are great for Toronto.

Marleau’s 3 year deal was a huge mistake, but Spezza’s 1 year has been pretty successful.

Marleau was great? TOR had to give CAR a 1st rd pck to get rid of him.
As for Spezza, he barely made the roster out of camp

Marleau's contract was bad but he still was an asset to the team while he was in Toronto.

And you're completely wrong about Spezza. Toronto had a ton of forwards at their training camp fighting for the bottom 6 and Spezza clearly made the cut, so ??????????

Marleau WAS great, for like a season and 3/4 and then he fell off hard. And the Leafs had to give up a 1st rounder to get rid of him because they had to find a team that he would accept a trade to and was either the Sharks or a team that would buy him out, so even if he wasnt bad (he was) then they didnt have many options.
Spezza almost didnt make the team out of camp because Babcock didnt like him and was trying to make a point, he even went out of his way to scratch Spezza in his first return to Ottawa simply because of spite. Spezza had a great year for someone his age, and especially since he signed so cheap

Sabourin is an AHL player and would probably be the 25th forward on the leafs depth chart at best

Marleau was an asset year one, year two id argue he was a hindrance (6 mil for 37 points for a cap strapped team) and year three was a big negative as they gave up a 1st rd pck in a deep draft, to get rid of him.
You cant honestly say the Marleau acquisition, as a whole, was a success.

Marleau at 6.25 million was not great, no. The only lesson the Leafs learned was not to sign veterans on high contracts. I don't think you can argue that having veteran forwards on minimum salary is a detriment to the team.

Marleau has to be bought out. Since it was 35+ multi year deal there is no cap savings. You have to pay to move that cap hit. As a player and leader, Marleau was great.

Spezza played great. Not sure what your issue is there. I mean the guy is playing for league minimum.
