What does it take to acquire Stamkos

Created by: BeterChiarelli
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2020
Published: Jul. 29, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The "take a penalty and die" roster.

Protect:
Archibald, Draisaitl, McDavid, Nugent-Hopkins, Stamkos, Turris, Yamamoto (7)
Bear, Klefbom, Nurse (3)
Koskinen (1)

and use a small kicker to entice Seattle into selecting Kassian. Vesalainen takes his spot on the NHL roster. Dead cap expiring and a deal negotiated prior to the expansion draft with Larsson ($3.5M/4y) allows Edmonton to comfortably afford Nugent-Hopkins and Yamamoto into next season. The Kassian selection coughs up the money required to sign Bear long-term after his DeAngelo-esque prove-it deal. Bonus overages - thanks to terms of the flat cap - can be deferred an extra season if needed.

Trading for Stamkos is an idea I recently had kicking around in my head. It offers more cap savings to Tampa Bay than flipping Killorn would, and it's much more apt to result in a larger return in assets. Jones steps in as Tampa's #3LD but would be more than capable of elevating to #2LD if injuries occur based on what we saw last season. Puljujarvi is ready for quality middle six minutes and would very likely flourish in Tampa. It's likely that the Bolts use the 2020 Edmonton pick to flip Gourde somewhere else and use both of their 2021 picks to move up in what's expected to be a shallower draft. Chiasson and Marody are depth adds, with Chiasson bringing power play value in Stamkos' absence. Marody might top out as a bottom six forward in his career, but he's the exact piece Tampa likes to rotate in and out of their bottom six go help keep it cost effective.

I'm probably off on the value. Just not sure by how much.

I'd imagine it would need to center around Nuge

Stamkos is one of the best players in the world and the teams captain. He's the face of the Lightning, routinely averages over a point per game. And your offer doesn't include Broberg or Bouchard. Am i missing something here or is that completely insane

So they would probably just go ahead then and award the Oil a goal on an opponent’s minor penalty.
Why make them go through the formality of playing the 5 on 4.

Wouldn't it make more sense to acquire a Killorn/Palat ? It would be less expensive by far and you're still adding a 50 point guy who could play on McDavids left side. And cheaper, and less injury prone

Obviously when healthy Stammer is more of a weapon. But I think the Oilers question for so long has been finding guys who can compliment McDavid and Draisaitl.

Id be more inclined to go after Killorn for a smaller trade package. Had 27 goals and 27 assists I think this year or something. He's not Stammer but he is consistent enough where I think it would be worth not giving up such a huge haul, and taking a player with less star power who can still fill the need

Killorn-McDavid-Kass
Nuge-Drai-Yams

While Stammer makes that PP so lethal I think they don't necessarily need another top dollar guy, and they can still get a great player without trading so many futures. Oilers could even RECEIVE assets if Killorn is partially being moved just as a cap dump

Honestly, killorn and the Philly 3rd for Puljujarvi and it's a done deal

I think that we need to sign and protect AA instead of Turris
