they have to give up assets to make their problems go away but a 1st and a 3rd seems like they are getting off light here, they are in some serious cap hell and I think teams are going to really bend them over backwards with a flat cap for potentially the next 2 seasons

Vancouver can't spend to the cap if they want any chance of matching an offersheet for Hughes and Pettersson.

You have to account for either 1.7M in bonus overages for this year or 850k in bonus overages this year and another 850k (plus more) next year.

I don't even want to sign Toffoli for 5M. Let him walk if that's what he wants.

I think the Kings would go for this. Although I thought they would go for the Marleau contract too and they didn't, so who knows?

Yeah, maybe a 2nd with Baertshi and we can include a B prospect with Vancouver 1st rd pick to get rid of Eriksson. I'll do it

Teams are going to try to grind them out of Gaudette and Virtanen first before they start to look at the dump trades, with a shorter offseason they might not have a choice but to pay up for some of the cap dump prices

its a Modified NTC (15 team) after this season and chances are he just wants to play so if a rebuilding team takes on his cap dump he will have a chance to get some icetime

I know I wouldnt hate them botching this and letting Toffoli go to market. Would give him that 5-5.5mx5year deal anyday for the Avs, that way we dont have to hate eachtoher fighting over Montreal and Avs trade talks for Tatar, Domi or even Drouin haha

So Toffoli isn't getting resign, Virtanen 2RW and more cap space for next year.

really sounds like they are going to re-up Toffoli bc so they dont seem like they botched the TDL giving up to much for him as a pure rental.
which is goign to be a disaster for them to cap manage if they get that deal done before the clear room, teams will really grind them

But would you rather have Tatar and domi at the expense of Jost, Graves, etc or Toffoli with Graves and Jost on the team and Avs can explore a Zads trade for draft capital so they have assets at the TDL to add

Im just looking at the net positives of the whole team, I would rather have Domi and Toffoli first, I want nothign to do with Tatar, but I would rather not touch the D core in ideal with Montreal

Realistically Bergevin wont trade Tatar this summer
Domi wants to play Center, if he's getting trade it's to play Center somewhere else. MTL will sign him if he agrees to play winger

So I unsigned Toffoli, more cap space for next year + dont have to trade Baertschi
How does it look now ?

As you can see it's a lot easier to breath.

We have winger help coming soon, we just have a 1 year layover before they're ready. All of Podkolzin, Hoglander and Lind should be seriously competing for spots by the end of next season. Why tie up cap space in an ageing, declining winger?

I would adjust a bunch of the contracts. I think Markstrom get's less and Stetcher get's a little less if he wants to stay. Personally I would try to sign Virtanen to something similar to the Johnsson/Kapanen deals, so the extra money would go there.

100% agreed. I won't change anything because I think this post is pretty done. I thought Stetcher would be asking for way more so I gave him 1 year to bring him straight to UFA and another team will overpay for him

Thats a whole other can of worms.
I was speaking purely on a "who would you rather have basis" Jost & Graves and that circus aside.

I think COL pursues Hall first and foremost.
If they can get him, move Compher/Zadorov, keep Jost (cheaper version of Compher) & Graves, Namestnikov walks.

If COL cant get Hall, I can very well see a scenario where they keep Compher/Graves, resign Namestnikov and trade Jost/Zadorov
Or COL tries to target a UFA (Hoffman/Dadonov/Toffoli) and keep Graves/Jost, trade Zadorov/Compher, Namestnikov walks (the Jost vs Compher debate would be depending on cap space - as Jost will probably be about 1.5mil cheaper).

In all scenarios I see COL:
- Trading Zadorov
- Trading one of Compher/Jost
- Resign Graves
- Attempting to sign a UFA first (Hall, Hoffman, Dadonov, Toffoli), or resigning Namestnikov if UFA market doesnt work out

Obliviously Sakic deserves much of the credit.
But theres two key factors to the positive trend of COL right now.
A) Dont sign bad UFA deals
B) Re-build through drafting and developing

Some people may troll that COL got lucky in both the Makar and Bryam drafts, but you also have to consider both times they were the favourite for 1st OA and slid to 4th OA (both times). But no matter, they made the best of it and targeted two amazing pieces.

Marleau they would have had to buy out; Eriksson they can keep around for practice fodder.

I think the masterpiece Duchene trade is the best Sakic move with MacKinnon contract
