Flames will never take Ristolainen they already explored that option and decided that Ristolainen sucks

Both are bad defensively at least Risto can give you 40 points.

Your best offering Ristolainen to a team that needs PP quarterback and dont ask for much in return

Lucic literally had a better GAR than Risto this year, we also got rid of a lockroom cancer in that trade and brought in a guy that isn't.

Hindsight is 20/20 Neal was a horrible fit in Calgary and a lockeroom cancer.
Guy literally tried to break his stick on Tkachuk's back the other day.

For what is worth I like the Tampa trade, getting Cirelli is a good move.

And? If you're using a single model's output with some big flaws to determine how good a player is then you're lost.

Lucic plays about 13 minutes a night. Neal can play 16 minutes. Neal has 19 goals / Lucic has 8. You're paying big money for a 4th liner and they're paying big money for a fringe top 6 guy who can put up 20+ goals in a full season. It wasn't a smart trade for you guys.

Also, is Lucic not a lockerroom cancer anymore all of sudden lmao?

This post is a week old...

GAR is one of the best models out there too lol. I can also look at Corsi, Fenwick, +/-, E+/-, and Zone Starts.

Neal also had zero goals after 2020, where Lucic had 5. Lucic is also a PPG this tournament.

You can say all you want that it wasnt a smart trade, Neal was literally useless in Calgary and no one liked him but Smith. Lucic is well liked by the team and well respected.

And I just seen this reply. I'm not on this website 24/7.

Best models out there to who? Some huge limitations when comparing players that play with different roles and TOI.

Trading away Neal isn't the issue. It's singing him to that albatross deal in the first place and then trading for Lucic. The guy previously said he the team wouldn't trade for Risto because he sucks, but it didn't stop the team from signing a guy that sucks for a long deal then trading him for another guy that sucks more.

Chris Snow the AGM of Calgary (and previously the Head of Analytics for Calgary) previously prevented a trade for Risto due to him having horrible analytics. That has nothing to do with Neal or Lucic.

Yes we all know Neal was a bad signing but it was a rash decision for a player coming off of a solid year on the championship runner-ups. Trading for Lucic after removed the issue while also addressing other ones. No **** Lucic's contract is bad, but he is also still an NHL caliber player and is well liked by team and management. Good on Neal for having success in Edmonton he was a boat anchor for the Flames.
