Parayko and Hamilton over Pulock and Graves

I think the reason for this was to get this team under the cap.
Graves and Pulock come at 2.73 mil
Hamilton and Parayko at 11.25 mil

Hamilton's offense blows Pulock out of the water, but defensively I'd probably take Pulock, it's close tho

Pasta is actually in the top 10 for defensive point shares amongst forwards

Yes. He also has a below average corsi per 60 and below average Goals against per 60. I'll give you that he has an active stick but nothing else about his defense is special

He also has 2 great 2 way linemate with great advance metrics but Pastrnak is still below average.

Maybe just watch him play instead of putting all the blind faith in the world into Corsi per 60.

Hamilton is one of the worst defensive defensemen in the national hockey league.

Yeah, he stepped up and got embarrassed by ALEX F*CKING OVECHKIN once, so all his other great plays where he steps up and takes the puck/stops a rush are completely irrelevant

He’s basically been embarrassing defensively his entire career, but whatever. In the playoffs last year he got abused by the bruins. They dumped it in his corner every chance they could. Free possession.

I’m sure there are numbers that would indicate that. That’s why watching hockey is typically a good idea when evaluating hockey players.

ye, he's never been good in the corners, not a physical guy there at all for his size... I'll gladly let the other team cycle in the corner for 20 minutes if he doesn't let a pass through the middle/stops the cycle when the try to attack the middle idc lol, you're never gonna get a great chance from the corner

If good teams get possession, they get scoring chances, and likely goals follow. Dougie Hamilton hands the puck over gift wrapped in the corner. Maybe you watched that emasculating sweep last year. It was a delight every time he was on the ice if you were a bruins fan.

You could probably get Brodin-McAvoy in for Graves-Pulock and since there is enough offense, replace Pastrnak and Strome by Coleman and ZAR.

Brodin+McAvoy+Coleman+ZAR = $11,867M
Pastrnak+Strome+Graves+Pulock = 12,501M

So +$634K. And add to the the initial cap space: $1,201M. Also fine right now tho

Did you seriously just use +/- to determine defensive impact?

Not really... He had the 7th lowest GA/60 of all d men at 5v5 last year (with Reimer and Mrazek in net lol) 64th lowest over the past 3 years (yes I realize that is a flawed stat, but his xGA alsoo backs that up, and the eye test as I said earlier shows how he doesn't give up many good chances against), I'd take 3 seasons of great defensive play over one bad series lol
