Description
CGY loses to WPG in the Play-in round...hits the 12.5% lottery ticket and drafts Lafreniere. And if they don't hit the lottery, CGY sits at #12 in the 1st round.

Would have to pay a hefty premium to acquire B. Tkachuk from OTT. I think Monahan (25 years old, proven 1C, 3 years of contract, averages 30G/year over his career, proven leader) + #10 overall (2020) + Bratt (21 years old, tracking for 44 points per year in his first 3 seasons) + [prospect] would be in the ballpark.

OTT ends up with 4 picks in the 2020 1st round: 3, 5, 10, 21

These moves free up quite a bit of cap space for CGY, which gives Treliving some options to reload with experienced players on D and a big upgrade in net, all on shorter-term contracts. If CGY misses out on Lafreniere, then UFA forward options like: Hall, Hoffman, Toffoli, Granlund, etc. could be pursued.

Seattle Protection List (7F, 3D, 1G):

- B. Tkachuk
- Lindholm
- Backlund
- Mangiapane

- Giordano

- Kylington or Byfuglien

- Holtby or Rittich

This team isn’t any better also Byfuglien is not worth that much especially after missing almost 2 years of hockey

If they thought they could get Gaudreau extended, I bet they would.

They certainly would with a Gaudreau extension. This is very similar to the return received for Taylor Hall's final year. Obviously Gaudreau comes at a higher price because he has 2 full years of contract remaining (instead of half a season, like ARI acquired). And, after the 2021 season ends, NJ could sign Gaudreau to a long-term extension with his hometown team.

Yeah I hear you loud and clear, and I'd be really slow to trade Brady as well.

But for a premium over-pay with the right assets coming back, it's definitely worth considering.

If I'm Calgary, I'd go as far as: Monahan + Bratt + 2020 1st (ARI: #10) + Pelletier (CGY 1st round pick 2019)

Monahan would fetch more than the recent Taylor Hall trade (younger than Hall, plays 1C, and has 3 years of contract remaining at a great price). So basically you're talking about a haul of assets that converts to: 1st + 1st + 1st + 2nd + 3rd, at a minimum. That assumes Bratt is only valued at a 3rd round pick, which is below his actual value.

That's pretty much on par with the upper end offer sheet compensation.

And Monahan has been wearing a letter in CGY for a number of years now. He brings leadership and experience back in this deal.

It's a stretch from OTT's perspective for sure, but Brady would be looking at $8M (matching Chabot) coming out of his ELC next season, and Monahan is only costing $6.75M.

I doesn't matter what the package is, that's not a guy you trade. He's the only game changing forward on the Sens right now, and he's only 20. He's a rare breed of player that basically doesn't exist anymore, and he's a key leader on a young team. In my opinion his value to this team goes so far beyond just being a good player, and for a package to make sense for Ottawa, it would need to be so bad for the other team that it basically gets the other GM fired.

I wouldn't. Tuulola wouldn't be able to get playing time here, and the picks aren't enough to be worth passing on the Andy bounceback gamble.

The only way youre getting Brady, is by trading us Lafreniere.

You get the ticket and jersey selling goldmine that is both Tkachuk Brothers.

OTT gets the French Canadian franchise player.
