So in this trade scenario your paying Nylander essentially 11 mil a season. I love it as a sharks fan we’re not the only ones spending like morons

Columbus can’t afford that price or that cap hit. In the last 4 years we’ve had 2 1st round picks (PLD and Foudy) we also have the worse prospect pool in the league. We need to keep our picks after having 3 last season. This trade makes it 2 in 6 years from 2016-2021.

As for the cap Columbus doesn’t have the room to add Kopitar (depending on the PLD extension) and honestly the end of the Kopitar contract isn’t going to look very good. Plus I doubt he waves his NMC for Columbus.

That trade isn’t enough for LA. But as far as the Jackets go, they take it and run. I get your argument here about the 1st round picks. You are not wrong but a player like Kopitar would be helpful. I don’t think he is going to be an albatross as he has produced numbers with and without talent. Plus, the CBJ do have other players they can move to get more draft picks from. Cap wise, you are right. With Z and Jones needing new contracts not sure they can afford him.

Those are legacy contracts. They were made not to be moved. Those guys will be statues outside of Staples Center. But..

Doughty would probably waive his MNC to play in Toronto but the Kings can’t retain that much salary for 7 more years. Toronto will always have cap issues especially the next three years when it’s likely to be fixed at $81.5M.

I think Kopitar’s MNC becomes a modified NTC next year so something can get done. But he’s still way productive at 32. Vilardi is a top 6 and Turcotte might grow into a 1C but not before Kopitar’s contract is up.

And Kings and Ducks aren’t trade partners. I think Kings traded for Sean O’Donnell 15 years ago. Might have been the first and last phone call they’ve had.

Kopitar is 32 and his $10m/year contract lasts until he's 36. And the cap is going to be flat for several years. That's almost a guaranteed albatross.
