Switch Samburg with Niku and remove the 2021 2nd and the deal is better. We have enough LHD prospects and are getting thin at RHD prospects. After Weber, Petry and Juulsen we only have Brook, Fleury and Hendrickson in the system we can't even fill the rockets right side next year lol.

Jets are giving way too much here so no thanks, the Habs can keep Petry.

The Jets 2020 1st and Heinola for Domi and one of the Habs 2nds is fair, don't need or want Petry.

Samberg is a much higher rated prospect than Niku. Montreal have a need for a top 4 LHD more than a small 3rd pair RHD which is what Niku projects as imo.

I made another AGM for the Montreal side here: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1815150

I thought Winnipeg would rather keep Heinola over Samberg? Is that not correct?

Definitely but not sure if Samberg would be enough and didn't want to hear the whining about it.. Lol

I think Samberg is overrated but he is big and with Morrissey, Pionk and hopefully DeMelo I'm not sure having another small dman like Heinola is a good idea plus Niku is still around and he and Heinola are similar but Niku has very little value so he's not worth trading or would be enough for Domi, as good as Heinola is going to be the Jets need a 2C more then anything else, if it takes trading Heinola to get one then so be it.

I don't disagree with you that we need a top pairing LHD but we need a top pairing LHD not a prospect, we have a lot of top pairing prospects with Norlinder, Romanov, Harris and Struble all with potential. We actually have a greater need for a top pairing RHD prospect as our only one in the system is Brook and our only top 4 RHD prospects are Brook, Fleury and Henrikson. If Petry moves on in FA and Weber retires in less than 3 years we are severely screwed.

you do know free agency exists right? and that you'd be allowed to make other trades for a RHD right?

How many of the FA will be better than or equal to Petry AND willing to sign in Montreal? Not many if any! Trades for a top 4 RHD will be just as hard as they rarely come up for a reason. That reason is simply because top pairing RHD are a rare breed and as a result it is the hardest position to trade for.

In the corresponding Montreal AGM I included Montreal offersheeting Cernak. I think he might be the best OS candidate in Tampa as he won't get anywhere near as good offers from Tampa as other teams can make him.

Dont want or need a top 4 RHD who can play 20+ mins a night with Morrisey? He would be Winnipegs second best dman

That's fine but the Habs would have to move Petry before FA starts to be able to OS Cernak which I am not against but I doubt they do it.

They can submit an OS the day after the draft, which is before FA starts. At least that's the way it is in normal years.

He'll be 34 and a free agent, not overpaying for that, would rather sign DeMelo or one of the other many RHD's available in free agency then trade for Petry, I like Petry but I don't want to sell the farm for him.

Yeah, fair enough but that still doesn't solve the issue of RHD depth in the minors

Yes they could but again I just don't see MB doing it cause he likes Weber, Petry and Chiarot so much

Montreal have tonnes of draft picks. You can easily solve your RHD depth issue in the draft.

Your missing my point, if this trade was to happen it would have to include a top RHD prospect over Samburg because of positional need of the Habs.

Ok. I figured Montreal's need for a top 4 LHD was greater than their need for RHD - in the short term.

In short term yes we need the 1 LHD but I think many fans and the organization itself would rather see what our prospects become before bringing in another teams top prospect. Especially Romanov who is also NHL ready especially at the cost of creating a hole on the right side lol
