What happens if one of the 9th-12th seeds goes on and wins the Cup ?

Do the NHL discuss again the possibility of expanding the Playoffs to 20 teams.

Well they definitely shouldn't include those teams in the draft lottery next year.

The Erne trade is good from Detroit's pov. After todays game I think Drysdale or Askarov might be more prudent.

Well, gosh, let me think. We can either have another year of a defenseman who's top-pairing quality when he's available (too bad that's not that often)... or we can swap him out for dead cap (Russell would not be able to get ice time here), , take on an additional six million dollars in completely dead and useless cap space that extends for three more years (Neal would have severe trouble getting playing time here; we don't have enough space for the wingers we have), and as compensation for this hardship we get... a mid-to-late first in 2021, and the opportunity to add to our cap woes even more for little or no benefit.

Neal and Wennberg are both big cap dumps. Neal costs more so I threw in a 1st.

Russell and Murray are pretty similar.

Threw in Benning as a sweetener but we can keep him if you don't want him.

Wennberg can be bought out at pennies compared to Neal - as you well know, as you took advantage of that. The difference is a hell of a lot more than a 1st.

Russell and Murray are pretty similar.

Only in the sense that they're both Canadian-born hockey players. Otherwise they couldn't possibly be more different. Murray is a good-sized top-pairing quality defenseman who does good things on the power play and has the best breakout pass on this team but is unfortunately frequently injured. Russell is an undersized bottom-pairing fill-in who makes up for his deficiency in actual defense by leaping into shooting and passing lanes like he's a backup goaltender, and as a result is also frequently injured (altho generally not as long). Calling them "similar" is like suggesting RNH and Riley Nash are "similar".

Since when does a two-million-dollar (that'd be his QO) bottom pairing guy constitute a "sweetener"?

Lol. Murray as a top pairing D. Okay you lost all credibility.

What team is he a "top pairing D".

Comparing him to RNH. Are you serious. He's closer to a cap dump than RNH.

Obviously Wennberg has a better contract. People don't give 1st round picks for free...

Right here in Columbus, actually. Werenski's overall better because he's an actual #1D, but has a different skillset, so sometimes Murray subs in on top with Jones. It was a lot more common for him to do so when Werenski was still developing. Ask Dom Luszczyszyn if you don't want to believe me. He's not a #1, but he's just fine as the second guy there.

Work on your reading skills. I was saying that Murray is "comparable" to Russell the same way RNH is "comparable" to Riley Nash. In both cases you have Canadian players who play the same position and were each drafted by the same team, but that's as close as the similarities get.
